Australian RRP Predictions
We had a look at our extensive set database and compiled a list of all 2015 Star Wars sets and calculated the US to AU markup on each one. Using that data we applied the minimum, maximum and average markups to the US prices for these new sets. We probably won’t get official RRPs until Force Friday but hopefully this will give you a rough idea of what you’ll be up for.
Set | US RRP | Average Markup | Min Markup | Max Markup | Prediction |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
75099 Rey’s Speeder | $19.99 | $33.04 | $27.99 | $39.99 | $39.99 |
75100 First Order Snowspeeder | $39.99 | $66.10 | $55.99 | $80.00 | $69.99 |
75101 First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter | $69.99 | $115.69 | $97.99 | $140.02 | $119.99 |
75102 Poe’s X-Wing Fighter | $79.99 | $132.22 | $111.99 | $160.02 | $139.99 |
75103 First Order Transporter | $89.99 | $148.75 | $125.99 | $180.03 | $149.99 |
75104 Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle | $119.99 | $198.33 | $167.99 | $240.04 | $199.99 |
75105 Millennium Falcon | $149.99 | $247.92 | $209.99 | $300.06 | $249.99 |
Ouch! $970 AUD for the entire wave vs. $570 USD based on your predictions. Sadly the only force I’m going to be feeling on Force Friday 4th leans more towards the dark side. I believe your predictions will be pretty accurate eg. there is no way they will be selling the Falcon for less than the rrp of the previous version (and the TFA version has a slightly higher piece count). I’m hoping local retail competition will drive 20%+ off sales on these sets although hype and stock availability may kill any chance of that happening any time soon!
Hi Michael,
I love your website, I use it often looking for the next up coming sale or deal.
I posted my prediction of the prices of the upcoming The Force Awakens release on Eurobricks back in June when the AUD was a little stronger, they’re not as dire as your estimate 😉
I thought you or fellow readers may be interested: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19244&st=12050#entry2234783
This was derived mostly from recent sets with an exact price comparison between the AUD, USD, Euro and Sterling.
75099 Rey’s Speeder – 193 pieces – £19.99, €26.99, $19.99
75100 First Order Snowspeeder – 444 pieces – £39.99, €49.99, $39.99
75101 First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter – 517 pieces – £59.99, €69.99, $69.99
75102 Poe’s X-wing Starfighter – 717 pieces – £69.99, €89.99, $79.99
75103 First Order Transporter – 792 pieces – £79.99, €99.99, $89.99
75104 Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle – 1004 pieces – £99.99, €119.99, $119.99
75105 Millennium Falcon – 1332 pieces – £129.99, €149.99, $149.99
75099 $32.99 based on 75090
75100 $69.99 based on 75086 & 75087
75101 $99.99 based on 75084
75102 $129.99 based on 75093
75103 $139.99 based on 75094
75104 $179.99 based on 75054 & 75106
75105 $249.99 based on 7965
I was being very optimistic with 75099, it will probably be more likely $39.99 and I’m sure 75105 is spot on but check out the link to eurobricks which in turn links to the comparable sets and prices on bricklink.
Thanks for sharing your predictions. It’s hard to work out Australian prices because there is no consistency. Hopefully they are lower than my predictions but I have a feeling LEGO won’t be generous with sets based on such a highly anticipated film.
There is no real consistency which makes the guessing game feel like a fool’s errand but I did try and use the most recent sets as a comparison, my hope is that the Aus RRP was set months ago when the dollar was stronger. The U.K prices were set as early as January at the Toy Fair.
And I forgot to add whatever the prices turn out to be they’ll look a lot more attractive at a 20% off sale 😉
Not many cheap options in this wave.
Are these actually going to be on the shelves on the 4th?
I have been trying to get information from the retailers about their plans, but so far I haven’t got a lot of info back. So far Toys R Us have said they should and Target have some sort of plan for the day but not sure what that is yet.
If local retailers are doing ‘something’ on Force Friday you would think they would’ve promoted it by now. I suspect they are just as much in the dark as everyone else.
Well the glodal Force Friday streaming event is supposed to kick off first in Sydney (first because of time zones): http://www.starwars.com/news/the-force-awakens-around-the-world-star-wars-fans-invited-to-join-global-event-on-youtube
Personally I’m not interested in these sets the very first day they land on shelves. I’ll wait on reviews first and well, sales.
Toys R Us have a countdown timer on their website.
http://www.toysrus.com.au/star-wars/
I’m expecting a press release from Target at some point (Clearly leaving it until the last minute).
Cool. I wasn’t aware of that. Not that a countdown timer really tells us much. Live global unboxings by friends of Lego including Evantube sounds a bit cringeworthy to me. I agree with Steve, waiting for legitimate reviews and 20% discounts is the way to go. I will probably cave early on Rey’s speeder though. It’s the cheapest, its unique and I like the Rey minifig ????
Dropped into Myer Emporium today and according to a staff member they are expecting Force Awakens Lego mid September, possibly along with the Scooby range. We’ll see I guess. I’ll cave on Rey’s Speeder aswell as soon as I see it.
Ridiculous that stores here in Oz are saying “Mid September” for the September releases when a few people over on Eurobricks in the New Zealand thread are reporting sightings of Wall-E, Birds, Big Bang Theory, Technic blue crane, Star Wars buildable action figures and at least one Scooby Doo set.
Prices on shelf at local kmart.
