Your Exclusivity Guide For 1HY 2018

Every year there are certain sets that are exclusive to certain retailers. Usually tracking down who is stocking what is a bit of a pain but with help from LEGO I have been able to get all of that information and collated it into an easy to read table that you’ll find at the end of the article. Here is a bit of an overview first….

The list consists of some new 2018 sets as well as sets launched previously that either have new or continued exclusivity. However note that this list doesn’t cover LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne or Dreamworld as those stores have access to the full product range.

The Architecture sets will be exclusive to Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores for at least the first half of 2018. This includes the new Shanghai set.

The LEGO Batman Movie set The Bat-Dune Buggy is not listed as specific to a particular retailer but is listed as being exclusive to the first half of the year, which seems to indicate that it won’t be available in the second half of the year.

Disney Castle continues to be exclusive to LEGO Brand retail (Dreamworld and LEGOLAND Discovery Centre).

The new 2018 City set Mountain River Heist is a Toys R Us Exclusive.

Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores will be stocking the Taj Mahal set in the first half of 2018 but there is no set date specified.

Moana’s Ocean Voyage becomes a Kmart exclusive.

One of the biggest surprises to me on the list was two Amazon exclusives – the Ghostbusters HQ will be moving from Big W to Amazon and it will be joined by the Slave 1.

The 2018 Star Wars range features some exclusives too – the buildable Darth Vader and Boba Fett sets are both exclusive to Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores. Mos Eisley Cantina will be a Toys R Us exclusive while the Sandspeeder will only be coming to Toyworld stores.

Ninjago City is listed as a Toys R Us exclusive but no concrete date is given but as this is a 1HY list it hopefully will show up sooner rather than later.

The BrickHeadz, which aren’t in the retail catalogue, were not in the list so exclusivity on those is still unconfirmed.

Update: Just to clarify: This list is not every set that will be coming out in the first half of the year. There are still unannounced sets, sets that were recently announced (e.g. Ship in a Bottle) and sets where exclusivity hasn’t been decided. I will be doing my best to keep on top of this information as it becomes available.

How does TRU with such a small number of stores score so many exclusives? Big W got robbed with this lot.

I think it helps being a dedicated toy store. Big W probably doesn’t push as hard for exclusives and when they do it’s usually around the toy sale.

Might as well take the firehouse away from big w, its not like its actually been available from them for at least the past year. I wish they wouldnt do toyworld exclusives thougb, as Im pretty sure the chain doesnt even know what a sale is

186 Big W stores around Australia not just in major cities.
30 TRU – almost exclusively in capital cities and no concept of a competitive freigh cost.
Personally – 3 Big W within 100km and no TRU less than 200km away.
    Not impressed.

Thanks for the list! TRU has no stores here what so ever so I made an online purchase with their store and what a horror it was! Glad I already have Ninjago City from LEGO when it launched 🙂

TRU is not my favourite store chain but toyworld rarely has a sale. Lucky it is only the london bus and usual xmas sets they have that I want. I will wait for a rare sale at toyworld to get the bus. It should hopefully be easier to get ninjago city at a TRU as I am in the Melb city area. Hopefully the ucs falcon gets a sale in second half of the year.

Thanks Michael, it’s a really useful list! It sucks that Disney castle will remain a LEGO brand store exclusive; removing any hope of a decent discount. How does Toys R Us manage to gain so many exclusives? Is the company even solvent? I’m glad I got Ninjago City from Barnes & Noble with the recent discount glitch.

It wasn’t on the list. It wouldn’t surprise me if somebody gets it for their mid-year toy sale.

Damn, TRU have ninjago city, they seem to put the price of exclusives above RRP. Check out the online price of garmadons shark mech, $20 above RRP. ????
It wouldn’t surprise me if they put the price up by $50
I was preying for big w to get it, as I got GBFH for $361 and UCS snow speeder $224, cos I also get Woolies discount.

How much is ninjago city at TRU? I don’t see it listed on their site.

Thanks for this. I’ve only heard of the UCS snowspeeder being available at Big W I wonder if they will be stocked at other stores too this year.
