Introducing The Next Technic Supercar – The Bugatti Chiron

It hasn’t exactly been the best kept secret but now we have official details of the latest supercar to get the LEGO Technic treatment.

Introducing 42083 Bugatti Chiron

The set uses 3,600 pieces to recreate this record breaking car in 1:8 scale.

Not only does the set look great but it is absolutely packed with features that you only get with a Technic model of this size: the W16 engine has been recreated with moving pistons; there is an 8-speed gearbox, with movable paddle gearshift; working steering wheel, bearing the Bugatti emblem; and a top speed key to switch the active rear wing from handling to top speed position.

Like the Porsche before it this set is presented in a stylish box with collector’s booklet. Each model also features a unique serial number.

The set will be released some time tonight online and has an Australian RRP of $599.99. The set can be purchased right now from LEGO Online.

Pretty hefty “Aussie Tax” on this one. US retail is $350, or around $460 at current E/R. Add GST takes it to around $A510. I assume TLG just rounded up ;) .

The Porsche had a similar story, and when it turned up locally it was readily available for around $100 less than RRP. Now, 18 months after release, it sometimes appears for up to 40% off. I’d love to have this, but I can’t justify $600.

    • Mark says:

Ninjago docks is approx. the same number of pieces and has 13 minifigs but is $350 vs $600 for the Bugatti. That’s a hefty premium for the fancy packaging and Bugatti badge. I wonder how many of the pieces in the Bugatti are technic pins which sell for $0.01 each on bricklink?

      • Mark says:

So the answer is 1287 parts are black or blue technic pins. So more than a third of the set is ‘worth’ ~$12.87 in parts.

Saw two of them on the shelf at the Dreamworld store today. Looks fantastic, but too expensive for me at the moment. I’ll be waiting a bit till the sales kick in.
