On Sale: 20% Off At Big W

Got your eye on an August release? Then this is a sale you’ll want to check out.

From tomorrow (August 2nd) until August 15th Big W are offering 20% off all toys.

This does not apply to “Price Drop” items so there may be a few sets that aren’t included.

You can view the Big W online range here, but sales prices won’t be live until tomorrow.

Update: A few people are having trouble finding the Harry Potter sets on the Big W website. Here are some links:

Sly move Big W, I had all the new Harry Potter and Star Wars sets saved as favourites, ready to click purchase when this offer when live online, only for them to all miraculously be listed as ‘not available online’ once the 20 % activated. I still have the pages saved on my iPad, so hogwarts castle is listed as $119.20 for example, but won’t allow me to purchase and if I go to the link above the Harry Potter page link on the side has now been removed entirely. Sad face. Has anyone seen these sets in store?

Yeah same, so i’m confused about people saying they’ve purchased it online with Big W – like on the previous post’s comments!

Just returned from my local Big W. Sadly, they haven’t got any Harry Potter sets yet every other major stockist in the shopping centre has them : ( They did have the new X-wing and Solo train thingy.

I managed to buy two Hogwarts Castle’s online through Big W just this morning, no email yet saying they can’t fulfill the order for whatever reason, touch wood. Hoping I can go pick them up in the next day or two.

Could it possibly be that they already sold out? Surely not. I’m hoping it’s just a teething period.

The Big W won’t show out of stock sets. I’ve updated the article with some direct links

      • Matt Reply

Thanks for the links Michael, there is something other than just selling out going on though. All new sets were listed and available for purchase up until about 11pm last night, at which point they were all removed (including side bar link for HP). They seem to be trickling back bit by bit now and the HP link is back. Hopefully throughout the day, or following days, they’ll all be listed again. As of writing there are now 2 Star Wars sets back as listed, x-wing and Solo train, but neither currently have the 20% applied online and neither are ‘price dropped’ items so they do qualify (rest of the new Solo sets and Sandcrawler haven’t returned as yet though)

Thanks again for the updates Michael, obviously a 20% at Big W is very appealing for a lot of buyers as it equates closer to an average 30% off RRP

Just got email confirmation, I can now pick up my two Great Hall sets from Stafford Big W here in Brisbane, stoked.

SW sets weren’t discounted in store but after some discussions they admitted they should be and reduced them

As at 12.40pm the HP sets are all out of stock online. FB sets are still available. I called several stores and they all said they haven’t recieved stock, call back tomorrow.

Hi All, I imagine for many of you your day may have been as manic as mine trying to chase around BigW stores for well priced Harry Potter sets! I was told by a BigW employee that the major sets have sold out across Queensland at least with quite a few stores not even receiving any stock!! I noticed on the website and even in store that some of the new sets e.g UniKitty and Technic were showing as full price. This was addressed by staff for me so if you are still after some new sets and the price isn’t showing correctly online then if you can, head in store as the 20% does apply to all LEGO.

I managed to get the last of the sets delivered to Box Hill Vic yesterday after calling multiple times through the day. It really does depend on who get on the phone if they are helpful or not. You can check stock online for each set. For example, The Q.V. store and South Yarra in Vic are both showing stock of all the HP sets as of this morning…be quick!

Went into QV and they said they have not received their stock yet. So did click and collect. Hopefully they can fulfill the order!

    • Matt Reply

Good luck Cindy, I click and collected all the Harry Potter sets before 9 am this morning at QV Melb (Fri), the order went through and I received confirmation, then two hours laters received an amended order and refunds on every set except the Quidittch one. So near yet so far 🙁

I was able to order 2 60197 Passenger Trains for $119.20 each, which is about 40% off RRP of $199.99. I think the Big W price is normally around $149. They didn’t appear in the list of sets available online, but if you search for the set number specifically, it will come up, and you can order to pickup from a store nearby that still has stock.

Such a bargain isn’t it Brad! I was going to pass on that set but when you can get at train at that price I had to grab one 🙂 The big City Arctic set with the mammoth was a good price too at $103.20 considering the mammoth is selling for $50 plus own it’s own.

Has the Harry Potter minifig range been released? I bought a box of the unikitty minifigs from my local store for $240.

    • Mark Reply

Yes. I’ve seen the HP/FB CMFs at Coles, Kmart and Toyworld. All the boxes I found were already raided though. They should be in other stores too.

Does anyone know if there’s anything decent left at Eastland, Doncaster or Forest Hill in Melbourne ?

  13. Mark Reply

If you’re after the August releases then no @ Eastland. Doncaster has more flippers than Seaworld so I doubt it. Forest Hill would be your best bet.

Was able to get the Great Hall price matched at Target. Not even an option now as Big W have removed the sets from their site?? Big W staff have been so unhelpful as well! Yesterday I was told that Geelong had no stock coming for days… This morning I was told that they’ve sold out of the Great Hall already. I’m suspicious whether they even made it to the shelves.

    • Mark Reply

Most staff are clueless but some can be really helpful. I had a staff member at Lilydale check the system for me and determined the only store getting stock in yesterday in the eastern suburbs of Melb was Box Hill…their main click & collect store. Two calls to Box Hill were fruitless but a third call yielded an awesome staff member who helped me out.

  15. MGS Reply

Did anyone take a screenshot of the prices that have been taken down from BigW? This might help with price matching at other stores.

Went to my local Big W & no HP sets on shelves.

So asked one staff on floor & he went to the back & found one set of Hogwarts Great Hall + Hogwarts Whomping Willow.

He also asked if I wanted the Lego Sandcrawler & the X-Wing Starfightet.

    Sadly no HP mini figures.

The staff told me more stock should be coming next week.
