LEGO have just revealed details of a brand new theme – Hidden Side – that combines traditional building experiences with Augmented Reality play.

Here are the basics…

  • The LEGO® Hidden Side universe takes place in the fictional town of Newbury
  • The main characters, Jack and Parker, are teenage bloggers; through an app on their mobile phones, they can see the unseen
  • The play mission: LEGO Hidden Side challenges children to join a fearless team of ghost hunters, who dare see the unseen and help turn a haunted world back to normal one ghost at the time.
  • Through the game, children can explore the hidden, solve mysteries and catch the ghost
  • The product launches globally, though launch dates may vary depending on markets

You can check out the site for this new theme here.

New LEGO Certified Store Coming To Sydney

Brisbane has the Dreamworld store just a short drive down the M1. Melbourne has LEGOLAND Discovery Centre and it’s store. Now it’s Sydney’s turn to get an exciting LEGO retail outlet.

In late March Westfield Bondi Junction will be the home of Sydney’s first LEGO Certified store (just ignore the Birkenhead Point store from the 80s).

Here are the important points…

It’s a LEGO Certified Store

This is to be expected as the Dreamworld store is also a certified store. The biggest issue with this is that VIP points won’t be available. It’s possible that the store will roll out their own program but it won’t be linked to the online store’s VIP program.

The full product range should be available though, including exclusives.

There will be a PAB wall

The press release specifically mentions that there will be a Pick-a-Brick wall as part of the store. I think there would be riots if they’d decided to leave this out. I’m not sure if this will be priced by weight or by cups. I’m assuming per cup pricing.

The store will also feature build your own minifigure stations and brick engraving.

It’s going to be big

The store is an impressive 302 sqm area over two floors. Taking up part of the store is a dedicated area designed specifically for children’s parties. I am not sure if they’ll offer AFOL parties too.

I can’t wait to find out more about this store, and hopefully we will soon with the opening so close. Check out the official press release below.

Three More LEGO Movie 2 Sets Revealed

tlm2-thumb

LEGO has taken to their social media channels to reveal three new sets from The LEGO Movie 2.

These sets reference scenes that are not seen in the trailers so depending on your level of acceptance of spoilers you may want to avoid these pics for now.

Having seen the movie I can say that they don’t reveal any twists or give away any critical plot points.

These sets aren’t listed on the Australian website just yet so I don’t have any local pricing or release dates.

You can find the details of the sets below.

LEGO Movie 2 Promotion Now Live At LEGO Online

A new promotion is now active on the Australian online LEGO store.

If you spend $199 or more on The LEGO Movie 2 sets you’ll receive a free Rex’s Plantimal Ambush polybag.

The set features a Rex Dangervest minifigure and a brick built Plantimal that features some interesting parts.

You can find more details about the promotion here.

When you think Creator Expert the stores that usually come to mind are Myer and David Jones. Well in an interesting turn of events four different Creator Expert sets have been listed on both the Target and Big W websites.

There are 2 modulars, the Ferris Wheel and Mini Cooper on offer.

At the moment these sets are listed at RRP for both retailers but fingers crossed we get some sales soon.

Here are some direct links to the products on each site.

Here’s All The Cinemas Doing Preview Screenings of The LEGO Movie 2 This Weekend

tlm2-thumb

As a metaphorical olive branch to those of us angry about The LEGO Movie 2′s official release date of March 21st, Roadshow are running a series of special preview screenings this weekend (Febuary 9th & 10th).

These dates line up perfectly with the official US release and should help us all avoid the horror of spoilers.

I have got in touch with Roadshow and they were kind enough to provide the below list of all the cinemas running preview screenings. Hopefully this will help you find somewhere near you.

Review: 21041 The Great Wall of China

21041-thumb

To celebrate the Year of the Pig I decided to review something somewhat related to Chinese New Year. I thought about reviewing those sets that are impossible to buy but in the end I figured that’d just make people angry. Lets go with something a little different.

I haven’t really given the Architecture series much consideration but a friend suggest this set when I was looking for something to get at the end of last year. Let’s see if his recommendation was a good one or not.

Build Experience

review-section-banners-build-center

There are essentially three phases to this build. Firstly the underlying base is created with a series of plates and some bricks to create a framework.

The second part of the build is slowly building up the landscape using mostly dark green slope bricks. There is actually a fair bit of height on one side of the build so this is actually more involved than I expected it to be. There’s lots of internal structure in the raised mountain side of the build which makes the model very solid.

Competition: Win A Full Set of The LEGO Movie 2 Minifigures

The LEGO Movie 2 collectable minifigure series is officially out now, and if you’ve read my review then you’ll know that I am a big fan of the entire series.

Thanks to the LEGO community engagement team sending me a full box, I happen to have enough figures to share a little bit of the minifigure awesomeness with you.

I am giving away a full set of all 20 minifigures to one lucky Bricking Around reader. All you need to do to be in the draw is enter your details in the form below.

Review: 76113 Spider-Man Bike Rescue

thumb-76113

Last year a new Spider-Man movie hit cinemas and everything that I’ve read says that it’s amazing (it’s won a Golden Globe and is up for an Oscar). Unfortunately for LEGO they don’t have a range of tie-in products related to the movie like they do for other IPs. What LEGO does have is a series of unrelated Spider-Man sets that are officially available in stores from today.

If you’ve seen the trailers you’ll know that Into The Spider-Verse features the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man as the main character, as well as various other versions of the character. I picked this set because, while it’s not a direct tie-in, it seems like a good match for the film as you get a Miles Morales and a Peter Parker Spider-Man.

Read on to see if this set is as much of a hit as the film.

Overwatch Sets Now Listed At Amazon

If you were hanging out for the retail release of the Overwatch sets then you may have had mixed feelings about the news that they were going to be Amazon exclusives.

If you are still hanging out for these sets then you will be pleased to know that the full range is now listed on the Amazon Australia site.

Prices are, as expected, RRP or near enough to that. There’s a minor discount on the Bastion and Watchpoint sets.

I’ve included handy direct links to each set below.
