LEGO Announces Plants Made From Plants

This year will see a major milestone in LEGO’s move towards a renewable future. A range of plant elements included in upcoming sets will be made from plant-based plastic sourced from sugarcane.

If you didn’t already know, the current LEGO elements are currently produced using a petroleum based plastic. That means they are made from oil, which is not a renewable resource.

LEGO’s long term goal is to move completely to renewable resources, and these new elements are a first step.

The new sustainable parts will all be plant elements to start with.  These parts are made with polyethylene, which is a soft, durable and flexible plastic and while they are based on sugar-cane material, they are technically identical to those produced using conventional plastic.

I will certainly be looking to check out the new parts when they start appearing in sets but from what LEGO are saying I’m not going to notice the difference.

It’s great to see such a huge global brand making progress towards a more sustainable future.

#WhatWillYouBuild – Building Like a Kid With 10404 Ocean’s Bottom

WhatWillYouBuild Building Like A Kid Thumb

This article was planned a while ago but it just happened to coincide with a campaign from LEGO called #WhatWillYouBuild. Thanks to that campaign I have a copy of the 10404 Ocean’s Bottom set to give away. See the end of the article for competition details.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick I wanted to do something different. Sure I plan to review some amazing sets that are out this year but I also wanted to try and capture what made me fall in love with LEGO in the first place. I set out with a simple goal – build like a kid.

On Sale: 25% Off LEGO At Myer

Myer Logo Generic 200px

It’s not quite glitch sale levels but I do love a straight discount over 20%, and that is exactly what Myer are offering today and tomorrow with 25% off all LEGO.

This is a Super Saturday sale, which means that the discount is live online now but will only start in-store tomorrow.

The offer ends at 11:59 PM AEDT Saturday night, so get in quick.

The only exclusion mentioned is clearance items and minifigures.

You can view the full online range here.

Unfortunately it seems the anniversary codes have been disabled, so you won’t get extra discounts this time.

Thanks to Chris and Eric for letting me know.

Details of Marvel: The Universe Unites Promotion

March 3rd is not only the day that the Hulkbuster goes on sale, it is also the start date for a range of promotions that LEGO are calling Marvel: The Universe Unites.

LEGO haven’t set out the specific thresholds to qualify for each offer but as they are going to be running for a limited time I want to let you know now so that you can plan ahead.

I am not sure what the spend threshold to qualify for this promotion but it’s a great representation of the Milano in microscale.

You can find out more about each offer here.

On Sale: 33.5% Off Selected Sets At eBay

eBay 200

If you missed out on today’s Myer eBay double up glitch spectacular then this might be your next best option.

eBay currently has a page up for a range of LEGO sets that are 30% off their regular price. I promised 33.5% off though, and you’ll get that little bit extra with the code PICK5 at checkout. The code has a minimum spend of $30.

This sale is not the most extensive list but there are some interesting sets in the mix.

View the sale sets here.

This sale is scheduled to run until March 4th but a lot of the listings are already limited stock.

Thanks to Amanda on Facebook for the information.

On Sale: 36% Off At Myer eBay With A Discount Double-Up

Myer eBay 200

UPDATE: It looks like the glitch has been fixed.

Update 2: They unfixed it? I have no idea why but the double up is back on.

It looks like the Myer eBay store currently has a glitch double up of offers.

They already have 20% off LEGO and have now launched a special eBay only code for 20% off. Both of these offers are working together to get you 36% off their LEGO prices.

The code you need is PMYERSALE at the checkout.

I suggest getting in quickly as if this is a mistake it won’t last long.

View the Myer eBay range here.

Thanks to Daeyeon for letting me know about this.

60 Years of The LEGO Brick Set Now Available At Dreamworld

The Dreamworld Facebook page today shared some exciting news for locals who missed out on the 60th anniversary promotion when it was on the LEGO website.

Dreamworld LEGO 60th Set

From today if you spend $250 or more in store then you will receive a copy of 40290 60 Years of The LEGO Brick. Unfortunately that spend requirement is really high.

This is a popular collectors item and stock is limited so don’t expect it to be around for long.

On Sale: 20% Off At Hobby Warehouse eBay Store

eBay 200

eBay have ended their site-wide 10% off sale and replaced it with a 20% off Tech sale. For some unknown reason this tech sale includes Hobby Warehouse as one of the sellers.

They have a range of hundreds of LEGO sets listed, so the 20% off may come in handy.

Note that some of their prices are well above RRP, so be careful and make sure you aren’t getting ripped off even after the 20% off.

To get your discount use the code P20TECH at checkout. There is no minimum spend but you can only use the code 3 times during the period. The code expires on February 26th.

View their eBay range here.

On Sale: 20% Off At Myer

Myer Logo Generic 200px

Myer’s recent 20% off two or more items sale mysteriously ended earlier than it was supposed to which initially seemed like a problem. But the replacement offer that kicks off today is better.

On offer is a flat 20% off LEGO. No multiple purchases necessary.

While that may be the same discount percentage the kicker comes in the form of the anniversary codes. They weren’t working with the last offer but they are working with this one. The anniversary codes are ANNIVERSARY10 for $10 off when you spend $60 or more, ANNIVERSARY15 for $15 off when you spend $80 or more and ANNIVERSARY20 for $20 off when you spend $100 or more.

But wait, there’s more! You’ll also get the Year of the Dog bonus set. Update: They year of the dog promo is still listed on the website but it doesn’t seem to be adding to carts.

I can’t see an end date on this offer but I am guessing that it will run until Sunday February 25th.

You can view the Myer online range here, but this offer should be in-store too.

Thanks to Chris and Eric who both beat me to my regular Wednesday Myer check.
