Australian Price Confirmed For 21312 Women of NASA

21312 Women of NASA AU Price

LEGO have updated their online store with a product page for the recently announced Women of NASA set, which means that we now know the Australian price.

The set will cost $49.99 locally, which is unfortunately higher than most people were expecting/hoping.

With a US price of $24.99 and a UK price £19.99 the Australian price seems high.

While US prices don’t include tax, adding 10% tax and converting to Australian dollars works out to $35.05 AU. Even adding a 20% markup on that would be around $42.

The UK price of £19.99 works out to $33.51 AU. Again with a 20% markup that is around $40.

It feels like LEGO could have easily made this set $39.99. Hopefully it comes to local retail and we can get it on sale.

21312 Women of NASA Officially Announced

Back in 2014 LEGO released 21110 Research Institute, a LEGO Ideas project that featured a trio of female scientists. The set proved incredibly popular with young girls passionate about science as well as the wider LEGO community.

Now a new Ideas project is hitting the shelves that will also pay tribute to women in STEM – this time real women who did remarkable things… Introducing 21312 Women of NASA.

21312 Women of NASA Product

The set features 4 minifigures across three vignettes that represent the various work of people represented.

Here is the official product description;

Follow in the footsteps of 4 pioneering women of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration—America’s space agency) with this fun and inspiring LEGO® set. Build the Hubble Space Telescope and learn astronomy with the ‘Mother of Hubble’ Nancy Grace Roman. Develop the software for space missions with computer scientist Margaret Hamilton. And launch the space shuttle with Sally Ride, the first American woman to fly in space, and Mae Jemison, the world’s first woman of color in space. Build, play, learn and one day you too could become a science, technology, engineering or mathematics superstar!

The set will officially be released on November 1st. Currently the Australian RRP is unavailable but hopefully the product page will be online soon.

Review: Exploring 70620 Ninjago City

70620 Ninjago City Review Title Shot Square Small

It feels like everybody was caught by surprise when LEGO announced the Ninjago City set. This set was bigger, more detailed and generally just more than anybody was expecting for a Ninjago Movie set - 4867 pieces and 16 minifigures.

LEGO have attempted to collate the entire Ninjago City into a single set. Did they succeed? I will be finding out by looking not just at the build itself but also exploring some of the real world influences and the world-building within the set itself.

This is a huge set so this exploration is broken down in to various sections. I have tried not to be too long-winded with so much get through. For each section I will examine; the minifigures; the style, influences, signage and imagery of the set; and the build itself, such as innovative parts usage.

Level 1 – The Old World

Style

The old world is blatantly and unapologetically inspired by iconic waterfront cities such as Hong Kong, Singapore and various Japanese cities. As you navigate around this layer of the set you find all of the things you expect from a great waterfront city. There’s wide walkways right on the waters edge and a bridge that fishing boats pass under.

There is a market stall selling freshly caught fish and crabs, styled in a way that you can picture the real world version in your mind.
