Featured MOC: DC Superheroes Racers

Have you ever thought to yourself – “what would happen if somebody combined DC comics with the classic cartoon Wacky Racers?”

Well wonder longer, because Oky – Space Ranger has done just that and come up with a great collection of DC Superhero mini racers. Each car is styled to match the character and include lots of fun little details.

The evil Mongul is forcing Batman and some of his greatest friends and foes to compete with each other in a race to the death! The only rule is that they can’t use their superpowers. Who will win?

The LEGO® Movie – First Trailer

The LEGO Movie twitter account has just posted a link to the first official trailer for The LEGO Movie. Watch it below.

This looks like it is going to have the same humour as other LEGO films.

“The LEGO® Movie,” the first-ever, full-length theatrical LEGO® adventure, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, opens in theaters February 7, 2014. It stars the vocal talents of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie, with Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman.

The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

BrisBricks Pine Rivers 2013 Review & Photos

BrisBricks Pine Rivers

This is proving to be a great year to be a LEGO fan in Brisbane, with 3 separate shows scheduled. The first event of the year was the BrisBricks Pine Rivers show, which was held this weekend. I made the trip to the north side of Brisbane on Saturday morning for the 10:30am session.

Cuusoo News – Fall 2012 LEGO® Review

Curiosity

LEGO® has just released the results of the latest Cuusoo review round, and we have a new set incoming. LEGO has decided to proceed with Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover. I don’t think there is any huge surprise here – the Curiosity project was well designed and is a great fit with the LEGO brand. It also has similarities with other products produced by Cuusoo in the past (Shinkai 6500 and Hayabusa).

So what about the other projects in this review round?

UCS Sandcrawler™
 - This seems to have been rejected because LEGO won’t release a Star Wars set as part of the Cuusoo range.

Unfortunately we can’t approve this project in the LEGO Review based on our ongoing relationship and collaboration with Lucasfilm on LEGO Star Wars.

If you were thinking of starting a Star Wars Cuusoo project, it seems it might be a bit pointless. The UCS Sandcrawler was also an extremely large model, and Cuusoo seems to be sticking with smaller sets at this stage.

Thinking with Portals - Is still a possibility. I’m not sure if this is related to on-going licensing negotiations or just that LEGO isn’t sure about the viability of the potential product. Portal came out in 2007, and the sequel was 2011.

21104 Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover
It is with great pleasure we reveal that the next LEGO CUUSOO set will be theMars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover, based upon the LEGO CUUSOO project by Perijove.

This project rose to popularity in late summer 2012, when the real Mars Curiosity Rover approached and landed on the planet Mars in its historic mission. The model designer, LEGO CUUSOO user Perijove is a Mechanical Engineer who worked on the actual Curiosity rover at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Perijove writes that he built and submitted the rover to further the educational outreach of the Mars Curiosity rover’s incredible mission, and to encourage greater public support for space exploration.

The final product is still in development. Exact pricing and availability is still being determined, so stay tuned on this blog and LEGO CUUSOO for an update on when you can buy your own LEGO rover in the coming months.

Sydney Opera House™ Set (10234) Unveiled

10234 Sydney Opera House

What better way to celebrate the launch of a new Australian LEGO® Blog than with the unveiling of a huge new set that brilliantly captures one of our most iconic landmarks. Some people found the architecture version of the Opera House (set 21012) to be a little disappointing, but this creator expert version is substantially bigger, and better.

The Sydney Opera House is a building known for it’s curves; something that is not one of LEGO’s strengths. From the initial photos it seems designer Jamie Berard has produced a set that has all of those curves just where they should be.

10234 – Sydney Opera House™ will be available in September this year. An Australian price has not been released, but the $US RRP is $319.99.

Official LEGO® Information

The LEGO Group is set to pay homage to one of the greatest buildings of the Twentieth Century when it debuts a striking new official Sydney Opera House model on 1 September 2013.
The construction skills of LEGO fans from around the world will be put to the test as they recreate the unmistakable rooflines and complex angled walls of the Opera House using advanced building techniques and a total of 2,989 LEGO bricks.

Scaling 28cm high x 63.5cm wide x 38cm deep, this authentic representation of the Opera House will even stay true to its iconic harbour surrounds with the introduction the LEGO Group’s largest blue stud baseplate ever along with an abundance of dark tan LEGO bricks including the rare 1x1x2/3 stud and 1x2x2/3 stud slopes.

The Opera House model joins the LEGO Creator Expert product range, which has previously seen the likes of the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower and Tower Bridge immortalized in LEGO bricks.
