Unlimited LEGO In Your Browser – Build With Chrome

LEGO Build With Chrome

Have you always wanted to stake a claim to a block of land and use it to build a huge LEGO construction? Who hasn’t! Well now is your chance.

Some readers may remember that in 2012 Google Australia partnered with LEGO to create Build With Chrome. The site allowed LEGO fans to build whatever they wanted on a small part of Australia in their browser.

Two years later and the project has gone global

Head to http://www.buildwithchrome.com using the Chrome browser (any modern browser should work) and get building.

Here are the official details of the new version of this fun tool

Think back: you’ve just dumped a bin of LEGO® bricks onto the floor with a satisfying crash, and you have the whole day ahead of you to build whatever you want. There’s something pretty amazing about being able to piece together your ideas with just a collection of colorful bricks.

Well, we think the creative freedom of LEGO bricks shouldn’t be limited to plastic bins—which is the idea behind Build with Chrome, a collaboration between Chrome and the LEGO Group that brought these colorful bricks to the web using WebGL, a 3D graphics technology. It was originally built by a team in Australia as an experiment, and now we’re opening it up to everybody. So now you can publish your wacky creations to any plot of land in the world.

We’ve added a few new features to make it easier to build and explore this digital world of LEGO creations. To start, you can now sign in with a Google+ account to help find stuff that people in your circles have created. A new categorization system for completed Builds will help you sort and filter for specific types of structures.

To hone your engineering skills and prepare for the upcoming “THE LEGO® MOVIE™ ,” you can explore the Build Academy, a series of short tutorials and challenges featuring characters and structures from the film.

If it feels more natural to use your hands—rather than a mouse—you can build your creations using a touchscreen on your phone or tablet with Chrome for Android support for WebGL on devices with high-end graphics capabilities.

As big fans of LEGO, we’re excited to see what you come up with to fill this new world. Share your creations on Google+ and we’ll reshare the most inventive ones.

All Aboard – New LEGO Train Sets Coming Soon

LEGO Sets from the second half of 2014 have made an appearance at the German Toy Fair. The first batch of new sets are all Train related, and they look great.

60050 Lego Train Station
A modern looking station that should be a nice addition to any LEGO City. The station also includes a snack bar and comes with a taxi.

60051 High speed Passenger Train
The white three carriage train should be the perfect addition to the Train Station. Some fans might not like the fact that the train includes large moulded pieces for the front and rear.

60052 Cargo Train
A nice blue engine with a selection of cargo to transport. The cargo includes large spools of cable, fuel tanks and even a cow. The set also includes a forklift and small truck.

Check Out Nine Clips From The LEGO Movie

The-Lego-Movie-Logo-Small

Australia may be one of the last places in the world to get The LEGO Movie, but you can at least check out these 9 fantastic clips from the movie. Most of the clips are expanded scenes from the trailer, but we do get a much better look at the adorable Unikitty and Cloud Cuckoo Land.

We are loving everything that we see about this movie, and think it’s going to be a hit.

Check out all of the clips below

Bricking Around On Facebook

The Bricking Around Facebook page should now be up and running. There were some early problems with the Facebook setup, which is why our page disappeared.

We are still playing around with settings to get our posts showing up on Facebook, but that should start working soon!

71006 The Simpsons House Priced For Australia

LEGO Simpsons House Full

The fantastic looking 71006 The Simpsons House has just appeared on the Australian LEGO Online store. Unfortunately it is priced a little more than Australian fans were probably hoping.

The Bricking Around prediction was $299.99 for this set, but the official price is $329.99. The set is available to purchase from the 1st February.

Considering that this set is $199.99 in the US this seems like a pretty significant markup. Based on our standard conversion formula (US price + 10%, converted to $AU) the set comes out at $245 at current exchange rates. Based on those figures LEGO is placing a 34% percent markup on the converted price.

As a big Simpsons fan I really hope that this isn’t an online exclusive. With consistent sales throughout 2013, if this set is widely available it shouldn’t be difficult to find at 20% or more off. It’s possible that this could be a set that shows up for the mid-year toy sales.

You can view the official store page for the set here http://shop.lego.com/en-AU/The-Simpsons-House-71006

Thanks to Bricking Around reader Nick for letting us know the set had shown up online.
