New LEGO Dimensions Trailer Shows More Of The Bad Guy

LEGO Dimensions Xbox One

The release of LEGO Dimensions is getting closer and Warner Bros Games have posted this new trailer. After the previous trailers focused primarily on the heroes, this new video gives us a much better look at the bad guy – Lord Vortech.

The trailer shows off the epic scale of the game. Plenty of cameos from the different IPs included. We also finally know what happens when LEGO Batman runs into a different LEGO Batman. It’s definitely worth a look.

We have include the press release that was sent through with the video below too. It provides some more details about the game.

Book Review: Friends – Build Your Own Adventure

Friends Cover Small

RRP $39.99

The Book

The Friends Build Your Own Adventure book is a new entry from DK books. Unlike older books that featured a selection of bricks, this title features a single set (and minidoll) with the book serving as inspiration for future building.

I suspect that there is going to be a mixed response to the format – some young LEGO fans might find it frustrating that they can’t build everything that they see in the book. It’s important to go into the book knowing what it is.

The book opens with the instructions for the included set then a few pages of introduction. There are profiles of the main Friends characters, and nice explanation of how the book works.

Friends Page Feature01

I really liked the Builder Talk section which contains a visual glossary of different LEGO elements. There is also a section on sideways building, which has always been considered a more advanced technique.

The Book

The Ninjago Build Your Own Adventure book is a new entry from DK books. Unlike older books that featured a selection of bricks, this title features a single set (and minifigure) with the book serving as inspiration for future building.

I suspect that there is going to be a mixed response to the format – some young LEGO fans might find it frustrating that they can’t build everything that they see in the book. It’s important to go into the book knowing what it is.

The book opens with the instructions for the included set. I liked that this is the opening of the book rather than stuck at the back as an add-on.

Once your model is built, you are greeted with a few pages of introduction. There are profiles of the Ninjago characters, and nice explanation of how the book works.

Ninjago Page Feature01

I really liked the included pages that explain the different types of parts that LEGO produce. It’s a great visual introduction to things like the difference between plates and tiles.

We suspect that this is going to be a popular series – there are lots of great characters and all 16 look like a lot of fun. Click on the image below to view the full size version.

Canberra Brick Expo 2015

The Canberra Brick Expo is one of Australia’s biggest LEGO shows. Tickets regularly sell out for this event, so we want to give LEGO fans in the nation’s capital plenty of warning about this event.

Don’t Panic About Those Sold Out Modulars

If you’ve been on the online LEGO store lately you may have been shocked to see that quite a few sets are listed as Sold Out.

Modulars Sold Out

While a product being listed as sold out can be an indication that the set is being retired – that isn’t always the case. We spoke to LEGO about the issue and have been informed that these products are on backorder. They will be available again, but there is no specific date.

If you spot a LEGO set on the website that is saying it is sold out, the best option is always to call the customer service number and ask about that particular set. It’s possible that the set is retired, or it may just be that LEGO don’t know when that product will be back in stock. Our reply from LEGO didn’t include the status of every set currently listed as sold out, and we have heard that there are quite a few.
