Myer Toy Sale Updates

Myer Toy Sale 2014 Logo

The Myer Toy Sale has kicked off in-store today, and we have heard reports that a lot of stock is flying off the shelves. Online stock levels seem to be a little better but we suspect that a lot of the larger exclusive sets will not last until the weekend, let alone until the end of the sale.

In the interests of making sure our readers don’t miss out on a deal, we thought we would provide a quick update.

The Extra 10% Off

There have been reports that some buyers have been able to get the extra 10% off, even though this is supposed to exclude LEGO. We suggest that Myer One members take along a copy of the voucher with them, and try for the extra discount. Be prepared for the extra discount to be denied, but you never know what will happen. Remember that retail staff are just following instructions, so don’t get mad at them if they won’t apply the discount; after all the voucher does exclude LEGO.

Stock Levels

We have heard multiple reports that stock is selling out quickly, particularly the larger exclusive sets.

  • The Simpsons House – Sold out online, and we have received reports that most stores only received a few of these. We suggest calling your store in advance. Sold out online.
  • The Sea Cow – Again, limited stock of this one in-store. Still available online.
  • Parisian Restaurant – Limited stock in-store. Still available online.
  • Sydney Opera House – There seems to be better stock levels of this in-stores. Still available online.

Alternatives

We suspect that a lot of the larger sets will sell out before the end of the sale. We have had another look at the products that may be worth buying from Amazon if you can’t get them from Myer. The Millennium Falcon is actually cheaper from Amazon than from Myer.

The LEGO Movie DVD/Blu-Ray Pre-order Options

The LEGO Movie is released on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download in Australia on July 3rd. There are a few different packs available, depending on your preferred format. We have had a look around to see which stores are taking pre-orders, and which products they offer.

We suspect that the Vitruvius minifigure versions are going to be popular, and we don’t want anybody to miss out.

Update On Myer Toy Sale – No Extra 10% Discount

Emmett Expression

A quick update to our Myer Toy Sale news from yesterday. As we mentioned yesterday we had our fingers crossed that Myer would offer Myer One club members an additional 10% off toys. This was a deal they had done in previous years, and it makes for one of the best sales available. Unfortunately, the additional 10% off excludes LEGO this year.

We know it might seem strange to be disappointed about a sale, but a regular 20% off is fairly common. We were hoping for a little something extra.

Myer One Extra 10pc Excludes LEGO

We have checked the online code and can confirm that this does not apply to LEGO products.

2014 Toy Sales: 20% Off LEGO At Myer

The first of the 2014 mid-year toy sales has just started online.

Myer is kicking things off with a reasonable 20% off all LEGO. The big news isn’t so much the discount, it is the sets that they have got in stock for the sale. We have a list of the larger sets included in the sale below.

The sale is available online now (Tuesday 10th June 2014) and starts in store this Thursday (12th June 2014). The sale ends on the 20th July 2014.

In previous years there has been an extra 10% off for Myer One members, but we have not heard anything about this offer being available this year. If we do find out anything, we will update the article.

Official Details 10242 MINI Cooper – Including Australian Price

10242 Mini Cooper Box

Following on from our sneak peak earlier we have more official details of the 10242 MINI Cooper set including the official Australian price.

We predicted that the set would retail in Australian for $139.99, and unfortunately we were slightly off. The official price for this set in Australia is $149.99. The markup is a little more than we would have liked. It is possible that this is a result of additional licensing costs involved in the Mini brand.

As we previously mentioned the set will be available for via shop.LEGO.com in August this year.

LEGO Ideas Winter 2014 Review Results

LEGO have just announced the results of the latest LEGO Ideas review and we have a new LEGO Ideas set on the way. The female minifiigures project will become LEGO Ideas Research Institute. According to the announcement video we should see the final set released in August 2014.

LEGO Ideas Research Institute

We are really pleased to see this project become a set. The original idea had a lot of merit, and managed to gain a fair bit of media interest. The issue of gender inequality in the available range of minifigures has always been a topic of discussion. There is also an under-representation of women who undertake science careers. If young girls can be inspired to have an interest in science from

The fact that the final sets has been titled Research Institute, along with what was said in the announcement video, indicates that we will see three different female scientists coming together in a single set. Our hope is that the final set brings the three separate vignettes together into a single cohesive product.

Our take on the unsuccessful products is below the announcement video
