Ghostbusters Reaches LEGO Cuusoo Review – Again!

LEGO Ghostbusters Cuusoo 2

In a first for the LEGO Cuusoo program, two different versions of the same concept will be in a single review. LEGO fans have clearly spoken and are very keen to see a LEGO version of everybody’s favourite ghost catching team.

When the first Ghostbusters project hit the required number of supporters Bricking Around said that it stood a pretty good chance of being produced (if licenses can be worked out). A second project from the same IP also making it to the review is going to create some interesting questions for the LEGO team. One of the key elements of the Cuusoo concept is that project creators get 1% of total net sales of the product. How will LEGO handle this situation? Potentially they could choose to go with one project over the other and award royalties that way, but there does seem to be a little bit of overlap between the two projects.

LEGO’s official response didn’t specifically address the issue

It’s unprecedented to have two projects based on the same licensed property in the same LEGO Review period. While we don’t yet know what the outcome will be, we’re very pleased to see the collaborative spirit demonstrated between both Ghostbusters project creators.

One thing that is clear from this situation is that LEGO fans and/or Ghostbusters fans really want to see a LEGO Ghostbusters set produced. The worst possible outcome would be for neither project to pass review.

Ghostbusters Reaches LEGO Cuusoo Review

LEGO Ghostbusters Minifigures

When people talk about classic movies from the 1980′s that now have a cult following there are two names that really stand out. The first is Back To The Future and the second is Ghostbusters.

Marty McFly has already made the leap from the silver screen to the LEGO world, and he could soon be joined by Peter Venkman and his ghost busting colleagues. BrentWaller’s Ghostbusters project recently hit the required 10,000 votes and we think it stands a pretty good chance of passing review.

Ghostbusters has a very similar vibe to the Back To The Future project – they are both classic films that are fun and fairly inoffensive. The most difficult part of the process will be negotiating the required rights.

So what would a potential Ghostbusters set look like? The project featured a great MOC of the team’s converted firehouse office. LEGO is unlikely to produce such a large set for a Cuusoo project. History has shown that they tend to favour smaller sets. The set that is more likely is a recreation of the ECTO-1 and a minifigure lineup of the main characters. BrentWaller gives us a great example of what this would look like.

Could These Be The LEGO Simpsons Sets?

The Simpsons LEGO

A rumoured list of 2014 Simpsons LEGO sets has been making the rounds online. If true it looks like this range could be popular with Simpsons fans. The minifigure lineup and grouping generally seems pretty good.

Bart’s Skate Trick, £10 minifigs: Bart & Milhouse
- This seems like it’s going to be a good little set for Bart fans to pick up. With two licensed minifigures don’t expect a lot of parts in this one.

Homer at the Control Panel, £20, minifigs: Homer, Burns, & Smithers
- No surprises that the designers included this location. Hopefully it includes printed bricks rather than a lot of stickers. Burns and Smithers are a good choice of figures for this set.

Lisa’s Sax Performance, £30, minifigs: Lisa, Marge, Sherri, and Terri
- This is the one that seems a little  strange. Sherri and Terri hardly seem like iconic characters. Ralph Wiggum and Principal Skinner might have been better choices.

Springfield Shops, £50, minifigs: Bart, cashier at Krusty Burger, Krusty, Apu, and Nelson
- A great lineup in this one. If the actual shops look good this could be a popular product.

Simpson’s House,  £70, minifigs: Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa, Maggie, Grandpa, Flanders, and Santa’s Little Helper
- This is the one every Simpsons fan is going to want. The minifigure lineup almost seems too good to be true. Getting all of the family (even Abe) in one set is a nice move by LEGO.

Overall this looks like a good lineup of sets. They touch on all the iconic elements from the series without touching on the slightly more controversial areas (Like Moe’s for example). Hopefully this is a genuine list.
