10235 Winter Village Market Unveiled

LEGO 10235 - Winter Village Market

LEGO has just released details of the latest in the Winter Village range – 10235 Winter Village Market. The winter village sets have always had some very nice details, and the Market looks like no exception. The set features a great carousel (that actually works) and some cute market stalls.

Another great addition for AFOLs is dark blue arches that have been specifically included to make recreating the Market Street set just a little easier.

Australian LEGO Certified Professional Ryan McNaught has created this huge model of the iconic bridge to compliment the 10234 set. LEGO Club Magazine July 2013 – What’s Inside

LEGO Club

It’s time for another edition of the LEGO Club Magazine. Let’s have a look at what’s inside.

LEGO Free Shipping – Will it last? [Updated]

LEGO Free Delivery TweetSome readers may have noticed that LEGO’s online store has a new page stating that they are offering free shipping all year round. The offer was originally set to expire at the start of September, so I thought I would check that this new “year round” offer actually applied to Australia.

I sent a tweet to The LEGO Group (@LEGO_Group) with a simple message … Does the free delivery all year round apply in Australia?

After a few days I finally got a response … Yes it does

But that’s where things get a little strange. The reply from LEGO appears to have been completely deleted. I can find no trace of it anywhere other than the email I received. I don’t want to sound like a crazy conspiracy theorist (It’s possible that it just a glitch with twitter) but it is worth pointing out the terms of the offer: LEGO Group reserves the right to cancel or modify this promotion at any time without advance notice.

Enjoy the offer (it is quite a good one) while it lasts, but be aware that it may not last forever.

Update: I received a second reply from LEGO

Hi Michael, not sure what happened but yes, the offer is valid in Australia too on purchases above $150

Hopefully this is confirmation that the free shipping is a permanent change. The shipping & handling page has not been updated to reflect the change (the US version has) but this has probably just been missed.

LEGO Online Store – Exclusive VIP Set

LEGO 40078 Hot Dog Stand

LEGO has just launched a new special on their online store. VIP customers who spend over $100 will receive an exclusive 40078 Hot Dog Stand set. This set appears to only be available to online customers.

The set itself looks great, with two minifigures, a bike and the hotdog stand itself.

Combining this special with the current free shipping offer for orders over $150, it could be a great way to get a something not available in stores – like the Palace Cinema or The Tower of Orthanc™

Click here to access the VIP offer. You must be signed in with your VIP account.

Ipswich Brick Event Review & Photos

Ipswich Brick Event

There is no better way to spend a cold and rainy Sunday morning than with some LEGO, and that is exactly what I did at the Ipswich Brick Event.

Brick Owl – A New LEGO Marketplace

Brick Owl

A new LEGO marketplace has just launched called Brick Owl. The site is trying to offer users all of the features that have been lacking from Bricklink such as up-front shipping costs and the ability to create a wishlist from LEGO Digital Designer files. The site also has the ability to sync data with Bricklink – a feature that will make it much easier for sellers to join the site.

I did a quick test using a LDD file and found the process to be quick and easy. There were a few parts not added, but I suspect this will improve as more data is added.  Once a wishlist has been uploaded you can purchase those parts with just a few clicks. For those readers who make MOCs, I think this feature is going to be popular. Using my sample wishlist I found one seller who had all of the parts on my wishlist. The site added them all to a cart and gave me a price and shipping estimate in Australian dollars. I am very impressed so far.

More competition for Bricklink is going to create better sites for end users, and it looks like Brick Owl could be a strong competitor indeed. There is currently not a huge number of stores, but the Bricklink syncing should ensure there will be lots of people joining up.

The site also has a few opening promotions

  • The first 100 people to sign up and start filling their Wishlist will win a free Series 10 Minifigure
  • If you create a Store, every lot listed in your store will count as one entry into a prize draw to win a 10240 Red Five X-Wing Starfighter.
  • Any store created in the first month (before the end of July) will receive free fees until the end of the year.

Brick Owl is a new marketplace to buy and sell LEGO Parts, Minifigures and Sets. It’s been designed to be used by anybody but still have all of the advanced features that AFOLs need. Some of the features of the website include:

  • Instant checkout including instant payment via PayPal and shipping rates visible upfront while items are being added to the cart
  • Wishlist buying tool – Brick Owl will tell you which stores have your Wishlist items, how much they cost including shipping, and then let you choose which stores to buy from and add all the items to the carts at once
  • Wishlist importing from Lego Digital designer, LDraw, BrickStore
  • Advanced search including filters and tags so for example you can find all of the smiling female faces
  • Catalog Points – approved catalog changes are awarded catalog points which can be exchanged for prizes such as Keychains or a White Boba Fett
  • BrickLink synchronisation, so store inventories can be kept in sync on both websites
  • Customisable storefronts with the custom pages, colour schemes, and details about the store such as whether you sort mold variations
  • Security has been baked in from the start. The site is based on Drupal which is used by thousands of websites including the White House

We’re having some promotions to encourage people to come and take a look.

  • The first 100 people to sign up and start filling their Wishlist will win a free Series 10 Minifigure
  • For sellers, every lot listed in a store will count as one entry into a prize draw to win a 10240 Red Five X-Wing Starfighter
  • Any store created in the first month (before the end of July) will receive free fees until the end of the year.

Brick Owl is still being developed so expect more to come soon.
