20% Off David Jones Gift Cards Via eBay

eBay 200

PayPal Digital Gifts is offering 20% off David Jones Gift Cards via their eBay store.

Discounted gift cards can be used now to get a discount when there is no sale on, but they are also a great option to store away for a future sale. If you use a gift card you got for 20% off when David Jones has their own 20% off sale then you are getting a lot more bang for your buck.

The gift cards are available in $20, $50 or $100 options and are delivered instantly via email.

There are a limited number of cards available so I apologise in advance if you are reading this when they are gone. The offer ends March 25th if not sold out sooner.

Double VIP Points Is Now Active At LEGO Online

Double VIP Thumb New

I got some surprising news tonight – the Australian online LEGO store currently has a double VIP point offer running.

This is a great time to pick up some of those exclusive sets that aren’t in stores yet. It might make the Downtown Diner more tempting.

You’ll also get the Easter bonus if you spend over $55 and the Zane pod bonus if you spend $55 or more on Ninjago.

The double VIP point offer is valid 16th – 30th March 2018.

More information here.

Review: 10260 Downtown Diner

Since 2007 LEGO fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of each new modular building. Last year we got the Assembly Square set – a celebration of 10 years of the range. This year we get what in a way feels like a new chapter with 10260 Downtown Diner.

When leaked images first surfaced of the set some people proclaimed it to be a fake because of not only how different it looked but the inclusion of detailed minifigure faces.

There’s a lot to discuss with this set, so let’s get stuck in to it.

On Sale: 10% Off Everything at eBay

eBay 200

eBay have just emailed out a  new discount code that is active from today.

With the code BANK10 you can 10% off purchases over $75.

The code is valid once per person, so try and make the most of it. You can buy multiple items at once with the code though. This offer runs until 11:59 PM AEDT on Sunday March 18th.

Unfortunately there is no stacking with other offers but 10% isn’t too bad considering it will cover items like older second hand sets.

Head over to eBay and check it out.

Thanks to Richie for first letting me know about this.

On Sale: 20% Off At Toys R Us

What do you do if you are a store and everybody is saying that you are doomed? You try and get people through the door, and a 20% off everything sale is a pretty good way to do that.

Toys R Us have just pushed out an email promising 20% off all full priced items. This offer starts online now and will be in-store on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (March 16 – 18).

Toys R Us 20 percent off March 2018

This is perfect timing as Toys R Us have also just started free shipping on items over $130.

To take advantage of the offer you’ll need the barcode above in-store or use the code SAVENOW online.

Here are a few sets worth considering:

Toys R Us Australia Responds To Store Closures

The global brand Toys R Us is in trouble. All American and UK stores are going to be closed in the coming months. It is a devastating move that will leave thousands of people without jobs.

When the US arm of Toys R Us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September last year it was positioned as a move to restructure the business, not a step towards shutting it down. We were told that the move wouldn’t impact the Australian operation. We now know that the restructuring either didn’t happen or didn’t work and now the stores are closing.

The closure of all of the UK and US stores has huge implications for the Australian business. According to financial reports Toys ‘R’ Us Australia lost $7.6 million in the 12 months to January 28, 2017. The year before that was a $9 million loss. The Australian business’ most recent financial statements and reports, filed in June 2016, warn that its future relied on the financial support of its American parent company. That American company is closing all of it’s stores.

Toys R Us Australia Closure Statement Screenshot

In an attempt to ease growing concerns Toys R Us Australia have issued a statement on their Facebook page. It reads;

To our Valued Customers

While we are saddened by the news regarding our U.S. operations, in Australia we remain committed to delivering the best products, services and experiences possible to the many Toys”R”Us kids who have supported our business throughout the past 25 years.

We are working through a range of options for our business locally and as always will relentlessly strive towards bringing fun, joy and happiness to the hearts and minds of our customers for many more years to come.

Our stores remain open and our amazing staff are ready to serve you!
Our Gift Cards, VIP club points, Layby, returns policy and other services remain unchanged, however if you have any worries at all please reach out to our customer service team for more information.

There is one line in this statement that particularly stands out – “We are working through a range of options”. Obviously we have no way of knowing what those options are but in light of what is happening in the rest of the world it would be naive to think that closure wasn’t at least a possibility.

Should you be avoiding shopping at Toys R Us? I don’t think so. If you are buying LEGO there is no real concern about the store you buy it from closing down. Missing and broken parts can be handled by LEGO directly. The only thing I would say is that maybe it’s an idea to be cautious with gift cards and lay-bys. Those are always the things that catch people out when a store closes. If Toys R Us Australia does go into administration your gift cards may instantly become worthless.

Toys R Us Australia reportedly employs over 2,700 people in Australia. My thoughts are with those people and I honestly hope that Toys R Us Australia can find a solution to this difficult situation.

New Set From The Original Jurassic Park Revealed

LEGO have already revealed that they are going all-in on Jurassic World related sets, with not only regular sets but Juniors and Duplo also coming out. What I didn’t expect is a set based on one of the most iconic moments from the original Jurassic Park movie.

75932 Jurassic Park Velociraptor Chase manages to pack multiple iconic scenes and references into a compact little set.

The set features four minifigures – Lex, Tim, Ellie Sattler and Alan Grant – as well as a single velociraptor.

As a huge fan of the original Jurassic Park this set is ticking a heap of nostalgia boxes. So many iconic moments are captured.

You can check out additional images and set details below.
