LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne’s Retail Store Is Now Open

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne Logo Thumb

While the official opening of the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne isn’t until April 18th, Melbourne AFOL Chris discovered today that the retail store (the bit for big kids) is now open for trade.

Chris was awesome enough to send through a heap of images and some important information about the store. I’m not able to travel down for the opening but thanks to Chris’ work I almost feel like I was there.

First up, the bit that everybody wants to start with – Pick-a-brick. Pricing for the Pick-a-brick wall is the same as the Dreamworld store – $14.99 for a small cup and $29.99 for a large cup. The two images below should give you a good idea of the parts selection (click for larger versions).

The lineup seems fairly similar to what is on offer at the Dreamworld store.

On Sale: 20% Off At Target’s eBay Store, Plus Bonus $10 Off

Target 200x200

The Target eBay store has been updated to reflect the 20% off currently being offered by Target.

Like the catalogue offer this should run until April 30th.

If you are looking to save a little more eBay are offering a bonus discount. Enter code CHOCCY to get $10 off when you spend $50 or more. This isn’t a percentage offer so it doesn’t scale well – spend $300 and you still only get $10 off. This code expires April 16th. The codes is not exclusive to Target, it can be used on any eBay purchase.

Triple VIP Point Offer On Now

Triple VIP

Well this is unexpected! Out of the blue LEGO have just announced a Triple VIP Point offer on their online store.

I am sure this is going to be enough to get a lot of people over the line on those exclusives that are only available online.

The triple VIP offer runs from today (April 7th) until April 23rd.

There is also 10% off a range of older sets.

Don’t forget that the mini Beetle offer is also on.

Head on over to to place your order. Don’t forget to make sure you are signed in to your VIP account.

To illustrate how great this offer is, here are all the people that let me know about it: Chris, Ali, Andrew, Jason and David. Thanks to you all.

LEGO Ideas No Longer Allowing Projects Using Existing IP

LEGO Ideas 200px

The LEGO Ideas team yesterday published a new post on the Ideas Blog outlining some new rules for the site.

The super short version – from now there will be no new projects featuring existing properties LEGO has a licence for. This means that there will be no new Star Wars projects and no new Superheroes projects just to name a couple of themes.

There will be some people with planned projects undoubtedly annoyed by the change but I think it’s a good idea. The LEGO design team are always working on new ideas related to the IPs that they have access to, and this change prevents an idea that they are already working on hitting 10k.

Existing projects have not been removed but the rule change seems to imply pretty heavily that there is no chance they’ll pass review.

This change will likely result in less projects being uploaded but it may also help interesting and innovative ideas become more prominent.

The new rule works with a previous change that prevented follow-up ideas. For example you can’t submit a second Big Bang Theory set idea.

You can read more about the new rule here. LEGO have also provided a list of restricted licences here.

On Sale: 20% Off At Big W’s eBay Store

BigW 200x200

For a while the Big W eBay store shut down but it is now absolutely back. It also happens to be offering 20% off LEGO at the moment.

To take advantage of this offer you will need to use the code CBIGW at checkout. Unfortunately because this is done as a code you won’t be able to also get the additional 5% off.

The offer started today (April 6th) and runs until April 12th 2017.

April Sales Buying Guide And Megalist

April 2017 Sales Guide

Here we go – Big W, Kmart, Target, Myer and Toys R Us. Every one of those stores has a sale on right now. It’s school holidays and it’s magnificent for LEGO fans.

With so many sales on it can be hard to know what is the best deal. Hopefully this guide can give you all the information that you need.

First up, it’s important to know that different sales end at different times. You can check the end date of the sales on the calendar below.

Click on the links below to view the related articles about each sale

At the end of the article you’ll find the megalist. It’s every set featured in a current catalogue. The list doesn’t not include sets that would be covered in a percentage off sale. Here’s a quick tip to find the set that you want for the best price;

Is it in the megalist?
If the set is in the megalist and has a discount greater than 20% off RRP you should buy at the store listed. If it’s not listed, or less than 20% off then move on…

Is it a Rogue One set?
Myer has 30% off Rogue One sets, so if what you are after fits that category then go to Myer. If not move on…

Is the set available at Target?
If this is a generally available set Target is probably your next best bet. They have a flat 20% off and their prices are usually slightly lower than RRP. If the set is not available at Target, then on to…

Is the set available at Myer?
If the set you want is available at Myer but not Target then go to Myer for 20% off.

If all of that fails, then it seems you are after something that might be exclusive to another store. Unfortunately that may mean you are out of luck.

The information above doesn’t consider what stores are close to you. If you have a Myer closer than Target then that’s fine – there’s not likely to be a huge difference.

On Sale: 20 – 50% Off At Target

Target’s catalogue last week didn’t feature any actual LEGO, just a box of bricks compatible with LEGO. I was shocked. Luckily it seems to have been a diversion before they unleash this week’s catalogue, which happens to be pretty great. This catalogue starts tomorrow (April 6th) and runs right through to April 30th 2017.

The headline offer is 50% off both 75098 Assault on Hoth and 76052 Classic TV Series Batcave That’s right, both of these $399 sets are going to be available for just $199. Expect these to disappear quickly. Really quickly. Both of those links will take you to the relevant product page if you want to try and order online.

Target 50 percent off Hoth Batcave

What else is on offer? Well there is a baseline 20% off LEGO. It’s hard to complain about that.

They also have a new catalogue, featuring a heap (over 50) of sets that are all on sale for more than 20% off. You can check out the catalogue here, or the full listing below.

On Sale: Selected Sets Reduced At Toys R Us [Plus Batman Bonus]

Toys R US Logo 200px

As Easter approaches we have even more sales coming out.

This offer from Toys R Us features a fairly wide variety of sets on sale. The range of $29.99 sets down to just $19.99 are fairly tempting.

The sale kicks off today (April 5th) and runs for two weeks (through to April 18th 2017). You can view the catalogue for yourself here, or as always with selected sets sales you can see a list below.

They are also offering a bonus polybag 30523 The Joker Battle Training with purchases over $50. Unfortunately their LEGO Batman Movie sets are barely on sale (about a 10% discount on some). Unless you really, really want that particular polybag I would suggest going to Myer and getting 20% off and their bonus polybag.
