Official Details of 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V

LEGO has a long history of working with NASA to produce some fantastic sets and the Apollo Saturn V Ideas set has been a hotly anticipated addition to the lineup. Now LEGO have used the Idea blog to share official details of the set.

The huge 1 meter high (approximately 1:110 scale) icon of space exploration will be available from the 1st of June, 2017 for a recommended retail price of just USD 119.99. With 1969 LEGO elements the 21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V is the tallest LEGO Ideas set, as well as the one containing most elements.

21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V 01This set looks like an absolute must have for anybody with even a passing interest in the Apollo program or space in general. No Australian RRP at this stage but I will update as soon as I know. Read on for the official details and additional images.

Review: 42065 RC Tracked Racer

RC Tracked Racer 42065 Thumb

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Technic theme. While the theme has existed longer than I have, this is my first ever Technic set. I went from being a LEGO fan into my dark ages without ever making the transition to the more advanced theme.

With that confession out of the way, here is my review of 42065 RC Tracked Racer.

I was initially interested in this set for one simple reason – the finished model looked like a heap of fun. Far too often I build a set and then stick it on a shelf or (more often these days) put it away in a cupboard until I can find room. The RC Tracked Racer on the other hand was something that had the potential for on-going enjoyment.

Australian Price For 10257 Carousel Revealed

Overnight LEGO updated their Australian store with a page for the just announced 10257 Carousel.

The Australian RRP is confirmed to be $299.99.

Let me know what you think of the price.

LEGO Announces 10257 Carousel

When the Fairground Mixer set was first announced a lot of LEGO fans hoped it was the start of a new sub-theme. Well after the Ferris Wheel last year LEGO have just announced the third ride in their growing fairground – 10257 Carousel.

10257 Carousel

The set features a fairytale inspired design with animal rides instead of the more traditional horse and carriage. Included is a swan, tiger, frog, elephant and flamingo. There is also a small ticket booth build included too.

Design wise there are plenty of blue elements with lots of gold decorations. The central pillar of the ride features gold mirrors (unfortunately achieved with stickers). Topping off the ride is six new fabric panels in yellow.

There are no included Power Functions, but turning the crank will spin the ride. The animals will also move up and down as the ride spins, with the exception of the swan. For those of you who already own Power Functions elements they can very easily be connected.

It’s undeniable that this set is going to be compared to 10196 Grand Carousel, which is a set that is well loved by the AFOL community. It seems LEGO have made a conscious decision to not reproduce the older set but instead make something new. The Grand Carousel featured included power functions and a sound brick. Neither is included here. This new carousel is smaller in overall dimensions and pieces but I actually really like the overall design.

No Australian price as yet, but expect this to be around $300 when it is released on June 1. Hopefully we will see a VIP pre-release in late May but this is not confirmed.

Build A Giant Death Star At Westfield Warringah This Weekend

May 4th 2017 Build Event Thumb

To celebrate Star Wars Day (May the 4th) and the 40th anniversary of Star Wars LEGO Australia are building the southern hemisphere’s biggest Death Star.

American LEGO Master Builder, Chris Steininger will be in charge of construction, with plenty of hands on help from LEGO fans.

Once the model is complete you’ll be able to see the Death Star explode into hundreds of LEGO bricks right in front of your eyes thanks to augmented reality technology.

The event runs on Saturday April 29th and Sunday April 30th at Westfield Warringah Mall on Ground Level (outside Myer)

Even without forming an unlikely band of rebels we’ve managed to get a sneak peak at the Death Star plans – this thing is going to be huge.

On Sale: 20% Off At Myer When You Buy 2 or More Items

Myer Logo Generic 200px

With Myer’s recent sale finishing up on Monday I decided out of curiosity to check their website… sure enough they are backing up with another sale.

From today (April 26th) until 11:59pm AEST Sunday April 30th 2017 you can get 20% off when you buy 2 or more items. The qualifier of having to buy two sets is a little annoying but it shouldn’t be a huge issue for most.

The website doesn’t say if this is available in-store too or online only. I’ll check for an update to their website later today. If anybody is in-store and confirms this let me know in the comments.

Strangely it seems 10255 Assembly Square has been removed from their site.

You can view their online LEGO range here.
