Happy 40th Birthday To The Minifigure

August 29th 1977 was the date that the original patent for the minifigure was handed in but it wasn’t until 1978 that the first minifigure was released. With those two dates in mind, LEGO have officially declared today the official 40th birthday of the LEGO minifigure.

To celebrate this birthday LEGO have sent through an absolute treasure trove of images and information. I don’t want to bog you down with a wall of text – here’s all the good stuff.

Happy 60th Birthday To The LEGO Brick

60 Years Logo 2

January 28, 1958, at 13:58

That is the time and date recorded on the original Danish patent for the LEGO Brick we know and love. While the LEGO Group began producing a plastic brick in 1949 it was not until 1958 that the LEGO brick we know today was born. It took several years of iterations to find the iconic design, which has not been changed significantly since. In fact bricks from 1958 would still be compatible with bricks produced in 2018.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the LEGO Brick and as you know the 60th anniversary promotion is now live on the website. There are also several sets dedicated to the classic building experience, each with a special printed tile to commemorate the event.

I don’t want to write a huge history lesson, because I think the event would be much better celebrated by telling you all to go build something. Dig out those bricks or dust off a set and really celebrate the design of the LEGO brick.

The Dreamworld LEGO Store Turns One This Sunday

On January 28th 2017 the Dreamworld LEGO store opened it’s doors to the public. The first certified LEGO store in the country. Now, a year later they are having a special event to celebrate the store’s first birthday. The best bit is that you get the gifts.

If you spend $199 or more in-store on the day you will receive the exclusive 40145 LEGO Brand Retail Store set. This is a set that is very hard to track down. It also happens to be the same set that was given out for the grand opening. There is a limited amount of stock of the giveaway so I’d aim to get there early rather than late.

Younger LEGO fans will also be able to meet characters from NINJAGO and LEGO City on the day (9am – 12pm).

On Sale: 20% Off One Item At Toys R Us

Toys R Us are celebrating their 24th birthday tomorrow (September 16th). To help mark the day VIP customers will be able to get 20% off one item.

The offer can be accessed online now with the code 24BIRTHDAY. Online orders will still have to pay postage, lessening the savings a little.

If you are going in store you’ll need the barcode that can be found on the website.

Remember this is one item only, so choose wisely. The Old Fishing Store might be a good choice.

Bricking Around Turns 4

Bricking Around Turns 4

Yesterday was Bricking Around’s 4th birthday, but with the Myer sale kicking off I didn’t get a chance to post anything.

Since the first post on June 13th 2013 this site has grown beyond what I ever thought possible, including becoming a Recognised LEGO Fan Media site.

This is also a great opportunity to give you an update on some new things on the site…

Set Lookup tool

I’ve just launched the first version of a new set lookup tool. This page will enable you to find out information about a set, including the Australian RRP. The page will also display historical sales information based on the catalogues that I cover on this site. You’ll be able to see if a set is currently on sale in any catalogues as well as see how frequently that set is discounted. The page also includes a quick link to the current sales page, so that you can see if there are any percentage off sales on.

You can view the set lookup tool here.

2017 Toy Sale HQ

With the first of the 2017 toy sales now underway the Bricking Around 2017 Toy Sale HQ is now active. As more retailers release their catalogues this will be a central place to keep track of the offers.

360° Views

A new feature that I plan to include in reviews is a 360° look of the particular set or minifigure that I am reviewing. You can see the first example of this in my DC Comics Awesome Guide book review.

Thanks to everybody that reads this site. Bricking Around wouldn’t exist without your support.

On Sale: 23% Off For Toys R Us VIPs

If you are a Toys R Us VIP member then you probably good a welcome surprise in your inbox yesterday afternoon. To celebrate their 23rd birthday Toys R Us have sent out a voucher for 23% off one item.

The one item restriction is a bit annoying but if you are heading in-store you should be able to get away with doing a few transactions, even if you have to go grab a coffee between them. The offer is valid from today (September 16th) until Sunday September 19th.

To take advantage of the offer you’ll need to use the code 23BIRTHDAY online or provide the barcode in-store. If you didn’t get the email I’ve included the barcode below (you’ll need to be a VIP to use it).

I hope that Toys R Us are still around for their 100th birthday.

Bricking Around Turns Two!

Bricking Around Second Birthday

On Saturday June 13th Bricking Around officially turned two years old. I didn’t get a chance to post something on the day, because I happened to be at the BrisBricks Pine Rivers event – I think that’s a fitting birthday for a LEGO site.

Bricking Around launched with humble ambitions – to share news and sales with Australian LEGO fans. I never in my wildest dreams could have predicted the growth of this site.

I want to take the time to thank each and every one of our readers. From the people who stop by occasionally, to the ones who are here every day. Bricking Around wouldn’t still be around without the support of our wonderful readers.

Here are some quick stats

Here’s to the next two years!
