New LEGO Dimensions Trailer Shows More Of The Bad Guy

LEGO Dimensions Xbox One

The release of LEGO Dimensions is getting closer and Warner Bros Games have posted this new trailer. After the previous trailers focused primarily on the heroes, this new video gives us a much better look at the bad guy – Lord Vortech.

The trailer shows off the epic scale of the game. Plenty of cameos from the different IPs included. We also finally know what happens when LEGO Batman runs into a different LEGO Batman. It’s definitely worth a look.

We have include the press release that was sent through with the video below too. It provides some more details about the game.

New LEGO Dimensions Trailer Is All About The Doctor

The Doctor has always been limited to exploring time and space. Sure it doesn’t sound like much of a limitation, but haven’t you always wanted to see what would happen if he could team up with Batman or maybe even Homer Simpson?

LEGO DImensions Doctor Who Trailer

The latest LEGO Dimensions trailer shows off the Doctor helping out the three main characters (Wyldstyle, Batman and Gandalf) take on some classic Doctor Who villains.

The Doctor Who parts of game will feature Peter Capaldi voicing the Doctor as well as Jenna Coleman voicing Clara.

New LEGO Dimensions Sets Announced

LEGO has released details of several new LEGO Dimensions sets as well as an awesome video featuring the one and only Doc Brown.

With each new set the total cost of buying everything in the LEGO Dimensions range keeps creeping higher and higher. If this game takes off we feel sorry for parents everywhere.

New LEGO Dimensions Sets Uncovered

LEGO Dimensions may still be a few months away, but thanks to a discovery by Brickset we have some details of new sets that will coming out.

The biggest news is a completely new IP – Portal 2 will be making an appearance in LEGO form with a Dimensions Level Pack. A level pack means you won’t just get to play as Chell, you will also get to be able to play with all of the other characters in a Portal 2 inspired level. Have you always wanted to see LEGO Batman in Portal? Well now you can (probably).

Portal and Doctor Who Levels

The other really exciting news is a Doctor Who Level Pack. We knew that Doctor Who LEGO was coming soon, but to have him as a playable character in LEGO Dimensions is awesome. The level may be based on Victorian London, but it’s a bit hard to tell from the small image. What we do know is that there is a LEGO TARDIS.

Simpsons Level

We also have a third new Level Pack confirmed – The Simpsons. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise, but still looks like it could be a fun level.

Bart Fun Pack Krusty Fun PackSpeaking of The Simpsons, we also have two new Team Packs confirmed – Krusty The Clown and Bart Simpson.

Scooby and Jurassic World Team Packs

Last but certainly not least we have two previously unannounced Team Packs featuring Scooby-Doo and Jurassic World. We knew that LEGO had the rights to both of these, but its great to see them appear in LEGO Dimensions. We can’t decide what we like more; the brick built raptor or the micro Mystery Machine.

Additional LEGO Dimensions Information

Thanks to the Australian game retailer EB Games, we have some additional information about LEGO Dimensions.

First up, we have the game description.

What is LEGO® Dimensions?

When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO® worlds, different characters from DC Comics™, The Lord of the Rings™ and The LEGO® Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman™, Gandalf™ and Wyldstyle™ bravely jump into the vortex and quickly find themselves fighting to save all of LEGO® humanity.

Let creativity be the guide to a building and gaming adventure – journey through unexpected worlds and team-up with unlikely allies on the quest to defeat the evil Lord Vortech. Play with different minifigures from different worlds together in one LEGO videogame, and use each other’s vehicles and gadgets in a way never before possible. LEGO® Bad Cop™ driving the DeLorean Time Machine…why not?! The LEGO® Ninjago™ Masters of Spinjitsu fighting alongside Wonder Woman™…yes, please! Get ready to break the rules, because the only rule with LEGO Dimensions is that there are no rules.

We also have a bit of extra information about the plot

There is an ancient planet at the centre of the LEGO® Multiverse inhabited by an evil mastermind, Lord Vortech. It is said that he who controls the Foundational Elements that this planet is built upon, controls all of the Multiverse. Lord Vortech has vowed to be that ruler, summoning characters from a variety of LEGO worlds to help him find these building bricks of LEGO® civilization. Some have agreed. Others have rebelled. And only the combined powers of the greatest LEGO® heroes can stop him.

When a mysterious and powerful vortex suddenly appears in various LEGO worlds, different characters from DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings™ and The LEGO® Movie are swept away. To save their friends, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle bravely jump into the vortex. As they journey to locations beyond their wildest imaginations in search of their friends, they soon realize that Lord Vortech is summoning villains from across different LEGO® worlds to help him gain control. As his power grows, worlds mix, unexpected characters meet and all boundaries are broken. Our heroes must travel through space and time to rescue their friends before the vortexes destroy all of LEGO® humanity.

Introducing LEGO Dimensions

We had a few teasers earlier in the week, but now we have official details of the new LEGO game and toy hybrid – LEGO Dimensions.

The concept is ‘inspired by’ other toy-to-life games such as Skylanders and Disney Infinity. For those not familiar with the concept it involves placing certain objects on a special “portal”, and then the vehicle or character in question will appear in the game.

Here is the launch trailer

The starter pack includes the portal, 3 minifigures (Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf) as well as a small Batmobile. The portal and Batmobile are both built elements; you’ll get to put them together yourself.

It appears that most of the work is done by the special base piece, so everything else should be regular LEGO.

The LEGO Dimensions website also gives us a look at the expansions that will be available

There appears to be three different types of packs; Team Packs (with 2 minifigures), Level Packs (which include a new game level) and smaller Fun Packs (these appear to be a single minifigure, and a vehicle).

The game is going to be full of Warner Bros IP. This is a bit of a mixed blessing; Warner Bros own a lot of great properties, but there are plenty that they don’t own. For example Marvel characters are extremely unlikely here.

The inclusion of The Wizard of Oz is intriguing.

We suspect that AFOL reaction is going to be mixed, but the target market will probably love this. The biggest question that we have is how well the game works when a child mixes the parts for their LEGO Dimensions Batmobile in with the rest of their LEGO.

Let us know in the comments what you think of this.

LEGO Dimensions will be available for Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 on September 28th 2015. (That should be the Australian release date).
