If you are interested in this set it may be worth holding off until the 15th of October. Australia usually follows the UK promotions, and there are strong indications that a new promotion will kick off in the second half of the month; A bonus Elf Workshop set when you purchase Santa’s Workshop. At this stage we are unable to confirm with absolute certainty that Australia will be getting this promotion.

LEGO Online Store Currently Offline [Updated]

LEGO Offline

It seems that the online LEGO store is currently offline. We aren’t sure what is causing the outage, but at the time of writing (9:30AM AEST) it has been offline for at least three hours.

UPDATE: The store is back online. There doesn’t appear to be any difference (no new sets added).

If you have been trying to order something and came across the Service Unvailable page it’s not just you. This does appear to be a global outage, with multiple regions experiencing the issue.

August sees the release of some much anticipated sets like the Mini and Exo-Suit, so let’s hope the store is back online soon.

LEGO Increases Free Shipping Threshold By $50

Free Delivery

For LEGO fans looking to buy something hard to find or exclusive the official Australian online LEGO store was a good option. They do sell at Australian RRP, but the inclusion of regular bonuses meant it was easy to justify the little extra. Unfortunately, as of today, the free shipping threshold has increased from $150 to $200. To some it may not seem like a big difference, but it will make the online store less appealing for a lot of shoppers.

A good example of the problem is new Star Wars set 75054 AT-AT. With a price of $169.99 this set previously qualified for free shipping. As of today you will either have to pay $35 shipping or add an extra $30.01 worth of LEGO to your order. If you have a strict budget then the online store just no longer became an option.

Here is what the online store website says

We strive to offer you an unrivaled shopper experience. Due to changes with our shipping logistics, we have recently had to review our free shipping threshold.

As far as we can tell there have been no increases to their standard shipping charges, which have always been high. The minimum delivery charge is $25.00.

What can you do about this change?

The first thing we suggest is contact LEGO customer service and tell them that you aren’t happy with the change. We aren’t sure if LEGO will revise their position, so your next option is to shop around. Stay up to date with sales and check Amazon.com. With a lot more sets shipping to Australia and some good sales Amazon has become one of the cheapest ways to get LEGO.

Thanks to everybody who made us aware of the change

What’s In Store? Post-Christmas Deals 2013

It’s time once again for the Post-Christmas or Boxing Day sales. Unfortunately there are not a lot of LEGO offers this year. With consistent 20% off throughout the year and the annual July Toy Sales it seems that LEGO isn’t a priority of retailers at this time of the year.

Our first offer is 20% off at David Jones

David Jones Boxing Day 2013

This offer runs until the 5th of January 2014 and excludes both Creator and Friends sets. Creator seems like an unusual inclusion, but is most likely added to prevent discount modulars. This restriction also means sets such as the Horizon Express will not be discounted.

Next, LEGO Online Store is having a clearance sale; 30% off selected sets
