Australian Price Predictions For Exo-Suit & Research Institute Sets

Two highly anticipated LEGO Ideas sets have been added to the US version of the online store. Unfortunately these sets are not yet on the Australian version, so we don’t have official Australian pricing available yet. What we can do however is make an educated guess. These prices are just a prediction, and it’s possible that these may be incorrect.

To work out these prices we have looked at a few factors; the current exchange rate, adding 10% tax and an Australian markup. We have used a markup of 20% over the converted price as both of these sets are non-licensed.

21109 Exo Suit

US Price $34.99
Converted $40.98 (Add 10% tax then convert to $AU)
With Markup $49.17 (Add 20%)
Predicted RRP $49.99

21110 Research Institute

US Price $19.99
Converted $23.41 (Add 10% tax then convert to $AU)
With Markup $28.09 (Add 20%)
Predicted RRP $29.99

I’d like to think your pricing is correct, but looking at set 21103 which was also a US$35 set, this retailed in Australia for AU$70, so you’d expect 21109 to follow suit.

The Research Institute I fear might be AU$40 as well.

Guess I’m a glass half empty kind of guy. 😉

21103 seems to be an exception though… If you look at the other ideas sets available in Australia 21108 has a 19% markup and 21102 has a 21% markup. Also, these new sets don’t have a third party licence component. It may be that 21103 has a higher markup (46%) because of increased costs by the BTTF rights holders.

Im with Jules. The way they treat us down here in Oz, and the cheek TLG has shown as of late with the delivery charges, Im going for $59.99 for the exo-suit. It feels like we are an inconvenience to them, and they will charge us for the toils and pain of supplying the Australian Market

It’s hardly an exact science, but lately I’ve been working on the theory of multiplying the USD price by 1.5; my logic being that it maintains the same VIP points value. Licensed IPs may be higher – case in point is GotG – but as these two sets are not, I would suggest that Exo-Suit would likely be $50-$60 and Research Institute likely $30, so not too far off what others have suggested.

I’m at least glad to see that both sets are released on the same day (1st August), so we have the option to buy both at once, in a bid to work towards that exorbitant $200 free shipping threshold.

My theory is the extra cost is adding postage into the purchase price to cover themselves for “free postage”. You can see this most in the larger/heavier sets eg Simpsons $200 vs $320!. The smaller sets tend to be less of a difference as the $25 post you could pay should easily cover cost sending them from Europe. I’m not after the mini only new ideas sets so hope there is something else to get me to $200 next month

For those interested in getting the Lego Exo Suit set (21109), I have confirmation from a reliable source that it should be available on the 1st of August also through the Australian Lego S@H website for A$49.99.
    Very good prediction admin. 🙂
    Have a good weekend!

Well, it is 1st of August now and the Exo Suit is nowhere to be found on the s@h AU. If you search for it, it forces you to switch to the US store. I do hope this is being released to Aus….

With time zone differences it may not be up until later today. We will be keeping an eye out for it during the day.

Strange though that is doesn’t even show up as coming soon. The Tumbler does, and it is not out until September. The last Ideas set (Ghostbusters) was coming soon for a few weeks prior to release too. Just worried due to the fact that this is a very limited run (just 10,000 apparently), and with all the hype I think the other regions will buy them all up within hours. My paranoia knows no end when it comes to Lego AU’s propensity to treat us like second class citizens…
