We have some bad news for those of you who were hanging out for the Toys R Us exclusive Mini Modular sets. While we were originally told that these sets would be available to purchase separately, Toys R Us have since clarified their position and informed us that this is no longer the case.
We suspect that Toys R Us underestimated demand for these sets, and realised that stock needs to be reserved for the original promotion.
It’s quite disappointing as these sets were available yesterday, but only for a very brief window. It is possible that certain stores may allow you to buy the sets by themselves, but the official position is that they are a bonus only.
Here is message that we received this morning;
Hi Michael,
We have just been advised that unfortunately these Bonus Building Sets cannot be purchased separately. We apologise for the miscommunication.
Thank You

Bought 2 on their own yesterday, Pizza Shop and Town Hall. Was going to get the other 2 using the $5 coupon TRU sent me for Saturday. But might try and get them today before our local stops selling them.
The Townsville TRU has them on shelf with $14.99 price tags. Picked up the cinema this arvo, will go back Sat with the $5 voucher to try and score the Fire Station.
Just went to TRU Moore Park this afternoon, the sets were not on shelves, but I was able to purchase Town Hall and Fire Station sets from the cashier who keeps them near the cash registers. Worth the try.
I too have been able to purchase them separately at the Doncaster Toys R Us in Victoria.
I was able to get all four from the Chadstone (Vic) store today. They had them out the back, not on the shelves or behind the registers, but were quite happy to go and get a set for me without me making any other purchase.
throw my name in the ‘purchased individually’ hat, from Chadstone too. I did notice a huddle meeting of management types behind the counter while we were there, with a couple of the boxes in their hands, this didn’t affect my purchase but perhaps those of us who have posted our experiences here have been a bit lucky and the official position is as stated π
β¦new series 12 minifigures at Kmart Chadstone (and most likely all other stores over the next couple of days) should help take the sting away π
by the way, any other Chadstone visitors get to try the giant claw machine, great fun. Controlling my ‘sudden’ descent from a great height and getting a free toy for his troubles put a mile wide smile on my sons face π
Hey Matt, with the giant claw machine, does everyone get a turn? or do you have to win a contest to participate? Was there a long queue?
Unfortunately it is a lottery, I think every hour five names are drawn from a box. If you’re not picked you can enter again each hour. I can understand allowing everyone a go would be logistically crazy. We were there during lunchtime on Wednesday and although there were a lot of people around, the queue to register your name was very small. My son and I got very lucky as we registered and were picked within 20 minutes, I feel for anyone having to keep coming back and trying to get lucky enough to accommodate more than one child.
I would suggest trying either early in the morning or toward the end of the day, to best play the odds. Good luck if you go Alvin π
Thanks for that Matt!
Went to chadstone TRU to try and get a set – they only allowed me to get one set π and just FYI set 4 is out of stock there as well!
I didn’t test it all the way through to payment, but it appears that set 4 (Town Hall) is available for individual purchase through their website (http://www.toysrus.com.au/lego-bricktober-town-hall-bonus/).
