Toys R Us are willing to take on the other retailers on their 2015 Toy Sale pricing – they are offering an extra 10% off if you find a lower price on an item in their catalogue. That sounds like a lot of work cross checking all of the catalogues and looking for sets that meet their criteria. Well it would be hard work, if we hadn’t already done it for you.
As part of our 2015 Toy Sale coverage we have already created a database of sets in each catalogue. Using some quick searches we have created a list of sets that appear in the Toys R Us catalogue and at least one other catalogue. This should make it easy to get the best possible price.
First things first – let’s check the terms of the Toys R Us offer
Toys”R”Us Price Guarantee is available for products advertised in this catalogue only, on purchases during our Toys”R”Us Sale, Wednesday 24 June to Tuesday 14 July 2015. Excludes online purchases, nappies, wipes, baby food, baby formula, game consoles, iTunes Cards, Prepaid Cards, Gift Cards or non merchandise goods and services. Competitor’s product must be in stock at a retail outlet within the same city or town. Product must be identical (e.g. same brand, model and colour). Competitor’s advertised price must be current. Price Guarantee is not available when the competitor’s lower price is due to category or storewide discounts, conditional sales, package deals, trade-ins, damaged stock, demonstration or discontinued lines and loyalty or third party offers. We will not match online retailers, fire or liquidation sales, clearance and warehouse outlets. Competitor’s price will be matched, and a further 10% discount will be taken off the matched price
Here are the important parts
- Competitor’s product must be in stock at a retail outlet within the same city or town
- Product must be identical (shouldn’t be a problem with LEGO sets)
- Competitor’s advertised price must be current
- Price Guarantee is not available when the competitor’s lower price is due to category or storewide discounts
- Competitor’s price will be matched, and a further 10% discount will be taken off the matched price
That second last point may cause some issues – the Myer sale is 20% off LEGO and may therefore be a “category discount”. However we have only included the Myer items that are featured in the catalogue. Hopefully that will get around that restriction. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that.
You will also need to check when each sale starts. You can do this via our Current Sales page.

This won’t work, I tried this once and they won’t match category discounts like 20% of lego/toys. If anyone succeeds with the catalog argument let me know.
It may not work with Myer, but could be worth a try.
Quite a few where the lowest price is Kmart or Big W – which don’t have a category discount.
TRU is really hopeless. They would not price match (not even talking about beat it by 10%) Myer’s discount price. Thet advised me they are very strict on this policy.
I mean, strict? Should you be more ‘flexible’ in order to compete and survive? The whole chain is performing so bad to even survive in this economy. And you still want to kill any potential businesses.
When did you try this? I believe the price beat offer is part of the toy sale, which hasn’t started yet. If you show them their own catalogue you should be able to get them to honour the offer. But, as I said – they may not price match Myer as it is a “category discount” and that is in the terms and conditions.
Does anybody know if Myer will price match what is in the Big W sale? I have vouchers for Myer…
They should match catalogue items.
My experience is that MYER wont price match unless there is also a Big W (with stock) in the same centre.
At least that’s what happened last year when I tried to get MYER Indooropilly to price match Big W on the Bike Shop & Cafe.
K-Mart on the other hand had no problems price matching without even caring if there was a Big W anywhere with stock (heck, I dont think the Big W sale had even started yet…)
