Don’t Panic About Those Sold Out Modulars

If you’ve been on the online LEGO store lately you may have been shocked to see that quite a few sets are listed as Sold Out.

Modulars Sold Out

While a product being listed as sold out can be an indication that the set is being retired – that isn’t always the case. We spoke to LEGO about the issue and have been informed that these products are on backorder. They will be available again, but there is no specific date.

If you spot a LEGO set on the website that is saying it is sold out, the best option is always to call the customer service number and ask about that particular set. It’s possible that the set is retired, or it may just be that LEGO don’t know when that product will be back in stock. Our reply from LEGO didn’t include the status of every set currently listed as sold out, and we have heard that there are quite a few.

The Australian customer service number is 1800 683 100

Don’t you find it odd that so many sets would simultaneously go from “available now” to sold out? It’s not just modulars either. Normally if a set is still in production the status becomes “temporarily out of stock” or “out of stock, expected delivery x date”. My experience from speaking to Lego reps on the 1800 number about stock availability of specific sets has been patchy at best…maybe your contacts are more reliable.

The online store can behave oddly at the best of times. It’s possible that the store has changed the way they display sets that are temporarily unavailable. I was told that they don’t have a date for when they will be back in stock – this could be why they aren’t showing a ship or back in stock date.

The Kwik E Mart is also listed as Sold Out and it was only released a few months ago. I agree with Mark, the Lego reps I’ve spoken to don’t seem to really know what’s happening although they did say that the Kwik E Mart is slated for Australian retail release in mid August so keep your eyes open!

Ok that’s weird. Several of them are now available (kwik e mart, Death Star, Parisian restaurant) or out of stock with an estimated delivery date ( palace cinema, pet shop, etc). I guess it was an anomaly with the website. It doesn’t dispel my belief that the phone reps have no idea what is going on but it’s good to see a lot of those sets are still available!
