First Look At Nexo Knights Theme

The Australian LEGO Club magazine has revealed a first look at the new Nexo Knights theme for 2016. While the name might suggest a castle theme this is actually a new action theme similar to Ninjago or Chima.

We’re going to post the image (click to see a larger version) and also break it down to try and get some hints about what the theme will be like.

Here’s what we think is going on in the picture…

Coloured Characters

Nexo Knights Colours

It seems that like Ninjago the main characters are all going to be colour coded. Castle themes have always just had nameless knights but with a tie-in cartoon this theme is going to have characters with unique personalities. This comes across as a “Knights of the round table” sort of vibe.

Female Knight

This theme is mostly likely going to advertised as a “boy theme” but it’s nice to see that a female knight is going to join the team. The ponytail helmet piece could be interesting.

Jester Bad Guy

LEGO Nexo Knights Enemy

It appears that for the first wave/series that the big bad is going to be this jester looking character. Just like Ninjago it’s likely that there will be different enemies each year.

New Enemy Moulds

It looks like the small enemy minions will be created with a new moulded body piece. These probably won’t hold a lot of appeal outside the Nexo Knights theme.

What do you think of Nexo Knights so far? Will it be a hit or a one wave flop?

I’ve seen the sets and it’s hard to tell how the theme will go. They don’t appeal to me at all, but they might find a market and kick on for the three year run. Thankfully there doesn’t seem to be a game element to the theme which was one aspect of Chima that didn’t take off, and is also slow on the uptake in Ninjago too.

From what I have seen the theme seems to be “Ninjago but Knights instead of Ninjas”

There is already an iOS game that requires scanning of shields – so it is 100% game orientated. Just like Lego Dimensions!
