Assault on Hoth Base Set Confirmed

While having a look for information about the New York Toy Fair we spotted confirmation that LEGO’s rumoured large scale Hoth set is on it’s way.

There have been plenty of hints and teases but now we have something official. Fingers crossed we will get pictures once the Toy Fair kicks off.

The set is officially called Assault on Hoth Base and it will feature 2,144 pieces and at least 6 minifigures including Luke and Han. From the description it sounds like the set will be made up of several sub-builds that can connect together in various ways to create your own Hoth Base layout. The press release specifically mentions a Wampa cave as part of the set.

With a US price of $249.99 this set is likely to be around $400 in Australia.

LEGO Assault on Hoth™ Base will Challenge Even the Most Skilled Fan Builders
Experienced builders can recreate the Rebel Force’s Echo Base from Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back in an unbelievably detailed recreation of one of the most iconic scenes in the original Star Wars trilogy. The 2,144-piece building set inspires fans to build their own scouting missions with the Snowspeeder, armed with twin spring-loaded shooters, and get back to base on the speeder bike to help Luke, Han and the other Rebel heroes. The modular design enables fans to customize their Rebel base configuration, including a Wampa cave and Wampa figure.  The set features LEGO minifigure versions of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Toryn Farr, Wes Janson, Wedge Antilles, K-3PO, and more. Available May 1 for $249.99.

A have a bad feeling about this. Another snowspeeder to use up precious pieces and a wampa cave. It sounds like a glorified amalgamation of previously released sets. I know I’m not alone in wishing we just got a highly detailed Echo base. You could argue that it’s better for kids playability but honestly who is the target demographic here? It will probably cost $400 AUD so beyond what most parents would likely spend on a single set for their kids. The press release even seems confused as to the target demographic…”Experienced builders can…blah blah” but it then makes a point of spring loaded shooters…not exactly a selling point for most AFOLs. And why does it need a speeder bike? Hopefully the pictures will change my mind!

so, pretty much what they showed in the movie clip “LEGO 2015 Mini Movie Ep 11 Battle of Hoth” but without the AT-AT’s – that’s disappointing.

I am looking forward to this set – but the description is a bit disheartening. If not a ‘proper’ UCS set, then I am hoping something on a parallel with the Ewok Village.

Bad feeling confirmed. I’m not usually that critical of Lego sets but having seen the official box art my fears are confirmed. Assault on Hoth is no way near deserving of the UCS moniker. Modular…ahem, no. Challenge for experienced builders…not from what I can tell. And the title “Assault on Hoth”. There are only two snowtroopers and a speeder bike….hardly an “assault” when they are going up against a snowspeeder, heavy canons, turbo lasers, shield generators, an ion canon, a battalion of rebels, an (albeit weakended) Jedi and Han frickn Solo! Remind me again who “won” this battle? It needed an AT-ST at a bare minimum to at least give give kids a chance to pretend the rebels were routed. As a UCS-style playset this does not even hold a candle to the Ewok Village. The annoying part is there are some great minifigs in there to lure the likes of me : /

Very, very ordinary UCS set having now seen the box art. Lego has dropped the ball on this one. Definitely wont be purchasing.

Agree with all the negative sentiment. I am genuinely sickened, particularly if the price point proves to be correct. Could be as much as $400 AUD which for 2000 average pieces is simply obscene. 2 snowtroopers? Pls.

“LEGO Assault on Hoth™ Base will Challenge Even the Most Skilled Fan Builders”. What a joke.

Perhaps they meant it will challenge their passion for Star Wars LEGO?
