The LEGO Ideas team yesterday published a new post on the Ideas Blog outlining some new rules for the site.
The super short version – from now there will be no new projects featuring existing properties LEGO has a licence for. This means that there will be no new Star Wars projects and no new Superheroes projects just to name a couple of themes.
There will be some people with planned projects undoubtedly annoyed by the change but I think it’s a good idea. The LEGO design team are always working on new ideas related to the IPs that they have access to, and this change prevents an idea that they are already working on hitting 10k.
Existing projects have not been removed but the rule change seems to imply pretty heavily that there is no chance they’ll pass review.
This change will likely result in less projects being uploaded but it may also help interesting and innovative ideas become more prominent.
The new rule works with a previous change that prevented follow-up ideas. For example you can’t submit a second Big Bang Theory set idea.
You can read more about the new rule here. LEGO have also provided a list of restricted licences here.
If there’s an active Knight Rider license, why don’t they use it?
They are using it in LEGO Dimensions
