There is a lot that happens at New York Toy Fair but unfortunately we don’t get detailed press releases and pictures of everything.
That is particularly true this year as LEGO chose not to show off many of the sets for the second half of the year.
LEGO did release a detailed overview of what was at the show, so while we don’t have pictures we do have new information as well as some confirmation of earlier rumours.
New Power Functions
This news is pretty exciting. Later in this year a new Power Functions system will be rolled out with new app connectivity. A new LEGO City Passenger Train will be one of the first sets to use the new system but there will be others inlcuding an app controlled “iconic vehicle” to be announced later in the year. Unfortunately what that iconic vehicle is remains a bit of a riddler, but I’m not jokering about it.
Pirate Roller Coaster
There were some early leaks of this one but it has been confirmed that a Creator 3-in-1 Pirate Roller Coaster will be released later this year. The set will feature a full loop of new roller coaster track elements as well as pirate themed builds for the ride.
Incredibles 2
There will be three sets released in May, all in the Juniors range. People who were at the show said that buying all three sets would get you the whole Incredible family.
City returns to the Arctic
In the second half of the year LEGO City will be returning to the Arctic with a new range of Arctic Expedition sets. The last Arctic range had some great set designs so I am interested to see these.
LEGO Friends Go-Karting
The Friends theme continues to knock it out of the park with outstanding ideas. The new sub-theme for the second half of the year will be a LEGO Friends Racing theme. I can’t wait to check these out.
Speed Champions
More cars will be out soon including the Ford Fiesta M-Sport WRC, Ferrari 488 GT3 “Scuderia Corsa,” and Porsche 919 Hybrid.
Harry Potter
We have seen the Great Hall set so far but there will be plenty of other Harry Potter sets. One unexpected announcement is that there will be several Wizarding World BrickHeadz sets including Harry, Ron, Hermione, Newt Scamander and more.
BrickHeadz
Speaking of BrickHeadz, a new set will be out later this year making it easy to recreate yourself in BrickHeadz form. The set contains the base for one BrickHead and a huge selection of parts to personalise it to look like you.
There are reports that this set is great value in the US, so it will be interesting to see what it costs locally.
LEGO Unikitty
Did you know that Unikitty now has her own show on Cartoon Network? There will be a range of sets related to the cartoon out in August.
Powerpuff Girls
Also out in August is a range of Powerpuff Girls sets. These sets will feature versions of the girls almost identical to their Dimensions appearance.
Boost
LEGO Boost will get two new sets that expand on the creative toolbox. There is a Ninjago Dragon and City set that will use the boost sensors and motors for play features.
