The Next Star Wars UCS Set Is 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City

Some of the most iconic moments in the original Star Wars trilogy all took place in The Empire Strikes Back, specifically in Cloud City.

75222 Betrayal at Cloud City captures several iconic scenes in a huge diorama, split into 4 distinct sections. Scenes included are; the galaxy’s most interesting dinner party, where the heroes discover Darth Vader waiting for them; Han Solo being frozen in Carbonite, uttering that classic “I know” line; the showdown between Luke and Vader, where Luke learns the truth about his dad.

Eh, $500 RRP for this isn’t -too- bad, I guess. After the Death Star and Millenium Falcon Australian RRPs, I was expecting much, much worse. Still, looks neat.

Feeling very conflicted with this one. On the one hand (no skywalker pun intended) as a huge SW fan I’ve been looking forward to this reveal and there are a lot of great elements here, on the other (cybernetic) hand this visually leans into the Hoth set philosophy of sticking lots of smaller play sets together and as a result doesn’t really reflect the iconic design asthetic of cloud city. Also it’s hard not to feel some of the lesser moments (such as the hallway conversation and worlds shortest dinner party) are given more space and attention than one of the most impactful scenes in cinema history (Vader/Luke/DNA reveal).

Love to see how it looks in person though.

Joker Manor costs $400 and contains 3444 pieces. Betrayal at Cloud City is $500 and contains only 2812 pieces. Is it because there is more minifigures in the Cloud City set (18) than Joker Manor (10) or am I missing something else?

There are tonnes of factors that go into price over and above piece count. My guess would be that the licensing on Star Wars is much higher and they have a somewhat captive audience that historically throws money at the sets. I mean when you cannot keep a $1300 LEGO set in stock you know you can charge a lot for this theme.

G’day & thanks for the post. Any idea if any of the Aussie retailers will stock this set? My guess is that Myer will as they are not “afraid” of the more expensive sets. Cheers.
