Things seem to be going pretty well here in Queensland, so it’s not a huge surprise that Alquemie Group would pick the sunshine state for another LEGO store. I personally was hoping for something on the southside, but they’ve gone further north. A lot further north.
That’s right the next LEGO Certified Store is coming to Townsville. Specifically the Stockland Townsville shopping centre.
Details are very limited at this stage but hopefully it progresses quickly.
You can check out the announcement that was made on Facebook below, but it’s not really anything beyond what I have said above.
Do you think it’ll be almost commonplace for these stores to appear in major shopping centres over the next few years? Using Brisbane as an example, I wouldn’t be surprised to see stores open in some of the larger centres like North Lakes or Carindale. I think the market would be there to support it.
Still looking forward to Canberra opening, well, any day now. Except of course we’re in lockdown for at least another fortnight, so it’ll be a while yet. Given they announced it in March it’s been a looooong wait. Should be worth it though.
There are reports that the mob that run these stores are looking for a store in the Brisbane CBD as well (Queen Street Mall frontage apparently).
As for where they should open more stores in QLD, I think Sunshine Plaza on the Sunshine Coast would make a lot of sense as a location for one. Its the biggest shopping centre up that way and its far enough away from Chermside that there is absolutely no chance of them competing with each other (North Lakes is only about 15 minutes from Chermside by car and its not all that large as shopping centres go really especially once you exclude the giant IKEA attached to it)
