After a splashy start to LEGO Masters 2022 we are back for episode 2 of LEGO Masters 2022. We begin the episode by looking at every completed build from tonight. Weird editing choice but ok.
Today’s episode is sponsored by Johnny Cash.
Hamish arrives on a kid sized motorbike to announce that today is the Stunt Person challenge. Each time will build a vehicle that will be launched through a burning ring of fire. Time to bust out the super slow-mo cameras.
Each team will be scored out of 10, with a bonus point up for grabs for the build that travels the furthest.
We now get the first minifigure pick of 2022. Unicorn girl, pilot, cowgirls, pizza delivery dude, corn man, witch, chicken suit man and rocket man. I think most of those could lead to a fun build.
Tonight is not an elimination. Which means Joss and Henry don’t need to play it but they will also need to win it back today if they want it again. As an advantage for having the brick they get to choose which team gets which minifigure. It’s not a bad advantage.
Crystal and Andrew get the cowgirl. Alex and Caleb get the pilot. Kirsti and Daniel get the chicken. Trent and Paul corn man. Lexi and Rachael are given rocket man. Nick and Gene unicorn. Branko and Max are given pizza delivery man and Joss and Henry take the witch.
Teams have just 6 hours for this build.
Crystal and Andrew are not thrilled on their cowgirl but eventually come up with an idea for a Tex-Mex fast food inspired build. They are building a burrito!
We get a bit more detail on Andrew and Crystal. Full disclosure I know Andrew as he’s a fellow LEGO fan media person. Not super well but we chat about LEGO stuff.
Kristi and Daniel decide on a rubber chicken build. It’s a fun concept.
Rachael and Lexi have the rocket man and they are not on the same page at all. Rachael is thinking Elton John and Lexi doesn’t really know much about Elton John. Lexi seems to be supportive of Rachael’s vision which is good. I saw a few comments comparing Lexi to Kale and I don’t think Kale ever went with one of Bilsy’s ideas?
Gene and Nick are going crazy over the top motorbike for their unicorn girl. This could be another fun one.
Hamish does his best impersonation of Brickman and tells Andrew and Crystal that their idea is not great. They haven’t really got the vehicle part happening. We go to a dramatic ad break and $10 says they come back and they’ve decided on a food truck.
Called it. They are doing a food truck.
Branko and Max are doing a huge pizza which could look great if it works. It’s a bit of a risk.
Trent and Paul are not super experienced vehicle builders. They are keeping it straightforward with a cob mobile. I would have done something popcorn related. Popcorn flying everywhere when it launches.
Joss and Henry are doing a spooky pumpkin dragster full of Halloween candy. Another team where they are considering what will happen during the launch.
Branko wants to throw their build on the floor. Max is not a fan of the idea. BECAUSE IT IS A TERRIBLE IDEA. Branko wins him over and he throws it. Branko seems happy with the data they collected.
Branko seems to have started something and all the other teams are doing tests now.
Dan and Kristi’s build is massive compared to everybody else. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
Crystal and Andrew seem to be struggling a bit today. Their build seems to be well behind the others.
There seems to be some tension between Lexi and Rachael. Brickman reminds them that rockets are cylinders.
Everybody is adding the finishing touches to their builds.
Brickman says the rubber chicken is too big.
Lexi has rounded out the rocket. Still looks a little short in my opinion.
It’s launch time
Trent and Paul
It’s the mustached Cob Mobile. The build launches and goes 6.3m. The build was packed with minifigure heads to represent corn kernels and it looked great on impact. The vehicle itself was a little simple.
Crystal and Andrew
It’s the burrito food truck. They have a mechanism to spin the burrito which could look cool as it launches. But it doesn’t. The wheels weren’t touching the ramp so there was no spin. Not going to win tonight.
Branko and Max
It’s pizza time. This is either going to be great or fail miserably. Let’s find out… That worked great! I loved the way the pizza flew out as it was flying. Good smash on landing too. A contender for sure.
Joss and Henry
That’s a big pumpkin. I love it. Looks great flying through the ring and smashes with a lot of colour. Another top build.
Caleb and Alex
Oh wow Caleb and Alex were here today?! They did not feature heavily in this episode at all. Not surprising because their build is a bit underwhelming. The colour choices didn’t do them any favours.
Nick and Gene
The unicorn monster trike is an interesting build. Their unicorn head falls off during the launch and their isn’t a lot of explosion. Not a top build.
Lexi and Rachael
They did not agree on this build and I don’t really love it myself. Could come down to the launch and smash. Not super impressive but they did get the bonus point for distance. I think they are going to win because their minifigure span in slow-mo.
Kristi and Dan
It’s a big rubber chicken. Another one that is going to be awesome or fail completely. Brickman is a massive fan of the aesthetics of the build but is fat shaming their chicken.
The chicken takes out a bus but looked amazing in the slow-mo shot through the ring. The landing was pretty great too.
Now the results…
The top 4 teams are: Lexi & Rachael, Trent & Paul, Joss & Henry and finally Kirsti & Dan.
With a score of 7.6 for forth place its Trent and Paul.
In third place with 7.8 is Joss and Henry.
Brickman says that Rachael and Lexi’s story was brilliant and it really wasn’t.
Kirsti and Dan got 8.8. Lexi and Rachael get 7.9 but take out the win thanks to Hamish’s bonus point.
“Welcome to Whose Build Is It Anyway, where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter.”
This is one of those episode that I really don’t agree with. Brickman praises them for having a really clear idea from the start but it seems like every team except Crystal and Andrew also had a really clear idea from the start.
Tomorrow we have world famous LEGO personality Delta Goodrem showing up.
The rubber chicken was head and boat feathers above all else, but just like last year the producers are hell bent on ensuring the all-female team is put forward. I can understand this to ensure the program has the widest possible appeal but it makes the judging kinda pointless. Brickman wanted the chicken, the producers “adjusted” the scoring to make sure it didn’t happen.
Did like that in Ep1, Lexi railroaded Rachael into doing what she wanted and you barely heard a peep out of the latter. In the wrap, Lexi was all I, I, I. In Ep 2, the idea was all Rachael’s and now Lexi is “we”. Suspect the dynamics in that team mirror those of Cale and Henry(?) in an earlier season.
