LEGO CON 2022 Liveblog

It’s 2am but I am up and ready for LEGO CON 2022. I’ll be updating this article with all the reveals as they happen as well as a recap of the event.

LEGO CON 2022 is done

Overall I think this was a successful event. There were some big reveals and fun segments. If you are waking up and catching up this post is in reverse chronological order.

Can we have a more Australian friendly time for LEGO CON 2023 please?

LEGO Masters build

A cool looking collaborative build. Overall though the LEGO Masters bits felt a bit like filler. They could have dropped this and it wouldn’t have been a worse event at all.

Brickman does make an appearance after all.

Building challenge

We are over time and now the hosts are building. Pretty sure these were pre-built and just sitting on the tray.

Star Wars

It’s time for what should be the last reveal of the night/morning.

LEGO® Star Wars™ The Justifier™ (75323)

  • Age: 9+; 1022 pieces; August 1, 2022 launch; $249.99 AUD
  • Bounty hunter Cad Bane has imprisoned Omega on board The Justifier. This awesome starship has a super-detailed cockpit, spring-loaded shooters and cool flight and landing modes. Help Omega break out from the laser jail cell, with help from droid Todo 360, and team up with Hunter to get away. But there’s a big bounty reward on her head, so Bane and Fennec Shand won’t give up easily!

LEGO® Star Wars™ AT-TE™ Walker (75337)

  • Age: 9+; 1082 pieces; August 1, 2022; $229.99 AUD
  • Power into battle against the Separatist Droid Army, with the mighty AT-TE Walker! With Commander Cody in the cockpit, stride across rocky terrain and fire the rotating heavy blaster cannon. Grab weapons and thermal detonators from the cabin and deploy the 212th Clone Troopers to fight the Battle Droids on the ground. Who will triumph in the Battle of Utapau? It’s up to you!

I am so tired

This event was supposed to go for two hours and they are running over.

LEGO Technic

No new set reveal, just some cool close up shots.

LEGO City Stuntz

We are doing live LEGO City stunts. They are fun sets but they don’t translate well to live TV. They aren’t selling the sets well with this segment.

LEGO Art – Florals

A new LEGO art set for people who want some bright floral patterns.

LEGO® Art Floral Art Set (31207)

  • Age: 18+; 2,870 pieces; August 1, 2022 launch; $119.99 AUD
  • Open botanical creativity awaits in this LEGO® Art Floral Art (31207) wall kit. Bring bold colors and design possibilities into your home as you build. You can also let your imagination bloom with your own motif. Enjoy a zone of joyful zen filled with flowers, peace and stress relief as you click each piece into place.

Super Mario

A reveal of the new character pack characters. No new sets but that was to be expected with the Peach sets coming soon.

Ekow Nimako

A nice interview with LEGO artist Ekow Nimako. His works are incredible. If you aren’t familiar with him definitely give him a google.

Harry Potter

We are getting a recap of existing sets with Marcos Bessa and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood). Marcos is also providing some building tips along the way.

LEGO Friends

Happy 10th birthday LEGO Friends.

No new sets revealed in this segment just an explanation of some of the 2022 sets – the friends are being sent off in to the world, with each set representing an “internship” style journey for the characters.

We also get a trailer for a new animated series Friends Heartlake Stories. It’s teased as a farewell to the original LEGO Friends charactes. The new show is not done in the Girls on a Mission style.

Minecraft

We are getting another LEGO Minecraft minifigure vote. Head over to LEGO on twitter to vote for what design you want to appear in a future minecraft set.

LEGO® Minecraft® The Skeleton Dungeon ( 21189)

  • Age: 8+; 364 pieces; August 1, 2022 launch; $49.99 AUD
  • Use your pickaxe to explore the stalagmites and stalactites of the dripstone cave. Be careful – there are 2 skeletons in the dungeon below! Push a stalagmite to make rocks crash down onto the hostile mobs. Then climb down the dripleaves in the lush cave to battle the skeletons with your crossbow. But watch out – a spin of the spawner causes another skeleton to appear, wearing enchanted armor!

LEGO® Minecraft® The Abandoned Village (21190)

  • Age: 8+; 422 pieces; ; August 1, 2022 launch;  $79.99 AUD
  • Grab your sword, it’s time to reclaim the abandoned village from the zombies! Battle the zombie villager at the blast furnace, seize the zombie farm and capture the abandoned house. Now you can rebuild the village in your own awesome style! Clear the cobwebs, combine the different buildings, and add furniture and tools for work. Finally, build a campfire – and plan your next adventure!

Taller minifigures

It’s been confirmed that the Avatar minifigures feature longer legs and arms. Might be time to revisit some basketball sets.

Avatar

Does anybody want this? Yes Avatar made a lot of money and there are sequels coming but… meh.

Avatar Toruk Makto & Tree of Souls (75574)

  • Age: 12+; 1212 pieces; October 1, 2022 launch; $229.99 AUD
  • Join Jake Sully, Neytiri, Mo’at and Tsu’Tey at the Tree of Souls! This LEGO® Avatar set reflects the scene where Jake joins with the majestic Toruk and becomes the 6th Toruk Makto. Dive into the intense effort to defend the important landmark of the Na’vi people, flying on the Toruk or riding the fierce Direhorse. Let the roots of the tree wrap around you and join the rest of the Na’vi as they commune together!

Ninjago

This is about the Ninjago cartoon rather than new set reveals.

LEGO Minifigures

We are getting a tease for the next series of CMFs.

It’s Cardboard Robot. It’s a minifigure that has created a robot suit out of cardboard. It’s super cute.

There is also boat costume, and reindeer costume minifigures.

Lion Knights’ Castle

One of the most highly anticipated sets of the year.

  • Age: 18+; 4514 pieces; August 3, 2022 launch; $549.99 AUD
  • It’s the build adult LEGO® fans have been waiting for. A classic – reimagined. Full post now live with more details.

Barcelona Brickheadz

A new licenced BrickHeadz set. One for the football fans. Not really my thing.

LEGO® BrickHeadz™ FC Barcelona Go Brick Me (40542)

  • Age: 10+; 530 pieces; August 1, 2022 launch; $29.99 AUD
  • Kids and fans of FC Barcelona will be thrilled to build a BrickHeadz™ model of themselves playing for one of the world’s biggest football clubs! They can choose from 3 different skin tones, tan, light brown or dark brown; 4 different hair colors, blonde, brown, ginger, or black; and many different hair styles including spikes, ponytails, a mohawk or bald. The shirt features the club’s iconic crest on the front, while there are also 2 sticker sheets for them to add their favorite number on the back.

Doctor Strange

Our first reveal of the night. It’s a massive Sanctum Sanctorum. It looks like a modular!

  • Age: 18+; 2708 pieces; August 1, 2022 launch; $349.99 AUD
  • This 2,708-piece recreation of the Sanctum Sanctorum, the notorious residence of Doctor Strange, incorporates classic scenes from Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The top story houses the museum of mystical collections, the middle section contains the library and at ground-level there are familiar features both inside and out.

Lightyear

Not a reveal just an interview with angus Maclane, the director of Lightyear and genuine AFOL. He’s discussing his principles for filmmaking and building LEGO.

1 – tell a story. 2 – keep it simple. 3 – building is rebuilding.

LEGO Masters Live

We are getting LEGO Masters from around the world building live. Brickman didn’t get the call-up for this one.

We’ve got Finland, US and Denmark teams. I haven’t watched any of those series so have no idea who these people are.

Teams have to build something celebrating 90 years of play.

The main show begins

I just saw Jeff Winger say Heartlake City. What an amazing event so far. They are even making jokes about LEGO leaks and people not building sets.

Pre-show

The pre-show stuff is always a bit silly but I like the classic brick building challenges we are getting this year.
