Last year to celebrate their 90th birthday LEGO released tributes to their classic themes – Space and Castle. There was of course one theme that was missing. LEGO have today corrected that with the announcement of 10320 Eldorado Fortress.
Based on the classic pirate set from 1989 this 2509 piece set comes with 8 minifigures and all of the details you’d expect.
Australian RRP is $329.99 and it is released on July 7th.
Will you be picking this one up?
Looks great and will be perfect next to barracuda bay.
The original set was the crown jewel of my collection as a kid so I really want this one. Will wait for a discount or see if I can trade my spare sealed Barracuda Bay for one of these.
Love the set, but a few little things I would have preferred to see are the old style monkey, Captain Redbeard (not so much of an issue if you have Barracuda Bay) but as a standalone set, I feel he should be included. The wharves might look better brown (but can do that myself) and maybe a less bulky crane. The newer printed Shako hats would have looked better, too. Mostly minor things I can sort out myself.
Gotta be honest, I don’t think it’s up to the same standard as the Galaxy Explorer or the Lion Castle (or Barracuda Bay, for that matter). It’s mimicking a set from the latter end of Lego’s Golden Age, when sets were designed to be clean and sparsely detailed; this remake (at least from the promo pics) feels a bit too ovedetailed and messy to be a good adaptation. The Galaxy explorer, Lion Knight’s Castle and Barracuda Bay all did a great job of modernizing their designs while still keeping the clean aesthetics of their originals – this one feels like a miss in my book.
(I do appreciate that they included/modernized the Sloop from Imperial Trading Post though. That was a good decision)
