10275 Elf Club House Review

LEGO is an organisation that from time to time lends their support to certain social issues. Finally in 2020 The LEGO Group is tackling an issue that far too many people overlook – the appalling treatment of Christmas Elves.

You may be thinking “But Michael, the Elf Club House is just a fun Christmas set!” Wrong. It is a wake-up call showing us all the horrors faced by Santa’s indentured servants.

Let’s start with the simple fact that this set is meant to represent a “Club House” for the Elves. To me, a club house suggest something social, a place where you can unwind. Right? Why then is there so much emphasis on work related activities?

Here Are All The New Releases For January 2020

It’s a new year, which means a whole heap of new LEGO sets are now available. What better way to start the year than by spending a heap of money on LEGO?

It will probably take a little while for these sets to filter through to stores but the list below will give you the official RRP of everything. Hopefully the catalogue will be available too, so that we know the release schedule.

Anything you are planning to get day one? Let me know in the comments.

LEGO Announces The 2020 Modular – 10270 Bookshop

Every year in early December LEGO announced the new entry to the modular building line. Today we have the official details of the 2020 modular.

Introducing 10270 Bookshop

This set features 2504 parts and 5 minifigures. The bookstore is a return to the split modular with the build containing two distinct buildings – there is the bookstore as well as a really cute apartment.

Both builds look fantastic and I think they are a good return to something more grounded after the garage and diner of previous years.

LEGO was kind enough to send me a copy of this set to review but it only arrived late today. I’ll have a detailed review for you before this set is released for sale on January 1st 2020. No Australian price as yet. Australian RRP is $249.99.

In the meantime check out the full image gallery and press release below.

LEGO Announces 2020 Chinese New Year Sets

The 2019 Chinese New Year sets caused a huge frenzy. The cause for this was obvious – they were initially really hard to get hold of and they also happened to look amazing.

Today LEGO has announced two new Chinese New Year sets for 2020 and once again they are brilliant.

80104 Lion Dance

The Lion Dance set vividly reproduces a well-loved scene of the Spring Festival and is sure to evoke fond memories of the traditional festival. The set features 5 beautifully decorated small lion figurines and a percussionists’ stage with an awesome drumming function. An accompanying temple gate is decorated with LEGO tiles featuring traditional patterns. The set also comes complete with 8 minifigures including lion dancers and a man in rat costume to mark the Year of the Rat. Additional accessory elements such as the red ‘best wishes’ scroll, red orb, cabbage, calligraphy brush and a rocket firework are included to inspire unlimited role-play.

80105 Chinese New Year Temple Fair

80105_prod

The Chinese New Year Temple Fair set captures a beloved event often seen in towns and cities throughout China around the lunar new year. The set includes stalls displaying a vast, colourful array of LEGO versions of authentic items you would find at a Temple Fair. Everything from barbecue dishes to candy, toys, vases and dough figurines are lovingly re-created ion LEGO form. The set also includes 14 minifigures. Eagle-eyed LEGO fans will notice that the family from last year’s Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner set make an appearance, continuing the story of their Spring Festival celebrations.

I am pretty impressed with both sets. They will be available in Australia on December 26th. The press release mentions an Australian price of $99.99 but I don’t know which of the two sets that applies to (maybe both?). Once I know more I’ll update the article.

Who’s excited?
