Get ready – August has some big releases!

Tonight July wraps up and we officially kick over in to August. It just so happens that August 1st is the official release date of a heap of exciting LEGO products. Now’s the time to get all your tabs ready because I think a lot of this stuff is going to sell out super quick.

LEGO are releasing a LOT of LEGO Mario sets tomorrow. If you want to get involved in the fun the key is going to be the starter pack – you need that to use any of the other sets.

Review: LEGO House Exclusive – The Wooden Duck

Have you been thinking about befriending a Dane, but for some reason never got around to it? Now is probably the time to do it.

In June LEGO announced the first set in a new range of LEGO House exclusives. The range will only be available to purchase in person at LEGO House in Billund. I am sure you can appreciate that this makes the set incredibly hard to get – particularly with international travel being little more than a fantasy at the moment.

The team at LEGO House offered to send me one of these sets to review and it was an opportunity that I just couldn’t pass up. Let’s see if this set is good enough to get LEGO House added to your 2021 (hopefully) travel plans.

The Wooden Duck is not a huge set and you should be able to get it assembled in one session, if you are able to set aside a couple of hours.

Even though it’s not a huge build I was quite impressed by the techniques that are used throughout. While at first glance this appears to be a pretty simple build, hidden behind the wings are quite a few technic elements.

There is also a lot of SNOT building to get the curves to match that iconic wooden version.

I really love the finished model. With the included display stand it makes a great display piece. While not every body who sees this on display in your house is going to understand the history, it’s still a great conversation starter.

Just like the original, this duck features a quacking play feature – pull it along by the included string and as wheels turn the beak will open and close. The mechanism works really well but the only issue I had was that the wheels don’t have a lot of grip so if you pull this along a hard surface it may just slide rather than spin the wheels.

As great as this set is I kind of hate that it’s an exclusive. Far too many of these sets are going to end up stuck in a cupboard, hidden away as a collectors item. To me that is the antithesis of what the wooden duck represents. The wooden duck was created because kids deserve great toys. They are meant to be played with. If you somehow manage to get your hands on one of these sets I hope that you will open it, build it and play with it. Let a kid pull it around your floor so it can quack as it rolls along.

Mickey & Minnie or a Crocodile – Which July 1st release are you excited about?

There are just a few hours left in the first half of 2020, which means that two big exclusives will be available very soon…

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne Launches Online Store

While LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne is officially closed, the retail store is still operating. In an effort to provide additional options for people they’ve now launched an online store.

legoland-discovery-centre-online-store

The online store offers a range of LEGOLAND Exclusive products as well as LEGO sets that you might not be able to find elsewhere. The online store now means that these hard to find products are available Australia wide. There is no free shipping but a quick check showed the following shipping options:

  • Click and collect – Free
  • Standard – $14.95
  • Express – $30.00

You might be interested to know that they still seem to have Pirates of Barracuda Bay available, unlike LEGO.com which is sold out.

If you sort the All Products page from Low to High you’ll also discover a bunch of polybags that you can’t easily buy.

You can find the online store at https://shop.legolanddiscoverycentre.com.au/

Now they just need to figure out a way to do PAB online.

Exclusivity Information For January

Detective

The 2019 sets should start making their way on to store shelves this week but there are a few sets that won’t be available everywhere.

Here’s the list of the exclusives for January and where you can find them.

There’s an interesting new option in this list – Grocery Channels. I am not sure exactly what that means but I assume that it means those sets will be available at Coles and Woolworths, possibly Costco too. This is a bit of a strange change as they aren’t the stores that you normally think of for LEGO. The grocery exclusives all seem to be the smaller end of the scale so this could be what happens to the Benny’s Space Squad set.

This list also includes the retail release of 71043 Hogwarts Castle at Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores. Anybody want to take bets on whether Myer excludes this from their sales or not?

You can find the full list below.

New Details On 4 Former Toys R Us Exclusives

When Toys R Us closed down the question that I got asked most of all was what is happening with the Toys R Us exclusives. I can assure you that I have been doing my best to keep on top of this including regularly bugging LEGO for information.

Thankfully we now know where four of those former exclusives are going. Here’s the list…

Set #
Name
Theme
RRP
Exclusive To
75205Mos Eisley CantinaStar Wars$69.99Myer
75933T-Rex TransportJurassic World$99.99Myer
60196Arctic Supply PlaneCity$99.99Costco, Toyworld
41345Heartlake City Pet CenterFriends$79.99Costco, Toyworld

The two Myer exclusives are currently listed on the website

I can’t find an online listing for the other two exclusives.

What you may need to know is that according to the information provided by LEGO these exclusives are single drop. Once they are gone then you are likely going to have to resort to LEGO online to get them. Obviously plans can change though.

I know that isn’t all of the exclusives that Toys R Us had. I have been told that negotiations are on-going for anything not mentioned above.

Exclusivity Information For August 2018

Detective

August features some popular releases but as usual there are few sets that you’ll have to go to a little extra effort to track down. Here’s your guide to what sets are exclusive to what retailer for August 2018.

Big W manages to snare two interesting exclusives. First is the latest UCS Star Wars set 75181 Y-Wing Starfighter. The second is 76112 App-Controlled Batmobile. I suspect that these sets won’t show up until after the 20% off sale ends.

The Bugatti Chiron should be available from Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores this month. Hopefully Myer don’t exclude this one from their sales.

As usual the new BrickHeadz are exclusive to Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores.

Interestingly the data that I was provided said that Hogwarts Express is an August release to the mass market – meaning everyone. I am not sure when this will actually arrive in stores and if this information overwrites the November date I had heard previously.

Of course the question that everybody keeps asking (I think LEGO are sick of me asking them) is what is happening with Toys R Us exclusives. The answer unfortunately is that there is no answer. The only update on Toys R Us exclusives at this stage is that 75955 Hogwarts Express is now available at mass (meaning all LEGO retailers). All other products are still in planning and negotiation.

You can see the full list of exclusives below.

Exclusivity Information For June 2018

Detective

Despite what a calendar will tell you June officially kicks of the second half of 2018 for LEGO. That means that there are a heap of new sets coming out.

I have previously done up a list of sets that are on the LEGO website but thanks to LEGO Australia I have information on who will be stocking what sets.

Big W will be home to the huge 76105 Hulkbuster: Ultron Edition from June and fingers crossed they offer a good discount on this set during their toy sale.

The new BrickHeadz continue to be exclusive to Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores.

Target gets an exclusive Creator set (31078 Treehouse Treasures) and an exclusive Friend set (41343 Heartlake City Airplane Tour). Joining the Hulkbuster at Big W is Friends set 41350 Spinning Brushes Car Wash.

The 76109 Quantum Realm Explorers set from Ant-Man will be available from Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores which is great considering the original Ant-Man set wasn’t released here at all.

Myer will also be exclusively getting 10875 Duplo Cargo Train, for the younger LEGO fans.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of the list is that Toys R Us will be getting 5 exclusives (see the list below). If Toys R Us can’t find a way out of it’s current situation then it will be interesting to see what happens to their exclusives.

You can see the full list of exclusives below. If there is something not on the list then it is either a general release or not yet decided.

Updated Exclusivity Information For April

Detective

I have been in touch with LEGO this morning and they were kind enough to send through a bit of an update on retailer exclusivity for some new sets. This list should help you plan out some of your purchases.

There are a heap of new BrickHeadz out – Go Brick Me, Infinity War, Solo, Jurassic World and The Incredibles II. All of these are exclusive to Myer, David Jones and Specialty toy stores. They are all April releases so should be out by the end of the month.

The latest modular 10260 Downtown Diner is hitting Myer this April. Hopefully it arrives when there is a 20% off or better sale.

21313 Ship in A Bottle should be easier to find as it is coming to Myer, David Jones and Specialty toy stores in May.

Jurassic World will have a $99.99 exclusive T-Rex Transport set coming to Toys R Us later this month too.

New Star Wars buildable versions of Han Solo, Range Trooper and Darth Maul will be available from Myer, David Jones and Specialty toy stores in April.

You can see the full list here. If you don’t see something on the list it is either on the earlier version, yet to be determined or general release.

Your Exclusivity Guide For 1HY 2018

Detective

Every year there are certain sets that are exclusive to certain retailers. Usually tracking down who is stocking what is a bit of a pain but with help from LEGO I have been able to get all of that information and collated it into an easy to read table that you’ll find at the end of the article. Here is a bit of an overview first….

The list consists of some new 2018 sets as well as sets launched previously that either have new or continued exclusivity. However note that this list doesn’t cover LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne or Dreamworld as those stores have access to the full product range.

The Architecture sets will be exclusive to Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores for at least the first half of 2018. This includes the new Shanghai set.

The LEGO Batman Movie set The Bat-Dune Buggy is not listed as specific to a particular retailer but is listed as being exclusive to the first half of the year, which seems to indicate that it won’t be available in the second half of the year.

Disney Castle continues to be exclusive to LEGO Brand retail (Dreamworld and LEGOLAND Discovery Centre).

The new 2018 City set Mountain River Heist is a Toys R Us Exclusive.

Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores will be stocking the Taj Mahal set in the first half of 2018 but there is no set date specified.

Moana’s Ocean Voyage becomes a Kmart exclusive.

One of the biggest surprises to me on the list was two Amazon exclusives – the Ghostbusters HQ will be moving from Big W to Amazon and it will be joined by the Slave 1.

The 2018 Star Wars range features some exclusives too – the buildable Darth Vader and Boba Fett sets are both exclusive to Myer, David Jones and specialty toy stores. Mos Eisley Cantina will be a Toys R Us exclusive while the Sandspeeder will only be coming to Toyworld stores.

Ninjago City is listed as a Toys R Us exclusive but no concrete date is given but as this is a 1HY list it hopefully will show up sooner rather than later.

The BrickHeadz, which aren’t in the retail catalogue, were not in the list so exclusivity on those is still unconfirmed.

Update: Just to clarify: This list is not every set that will be coming out in the first half of the year. There are still unannounced sets, sets that were recently announced (e.g. Ship in a Bottle) and sets where exclusivity hasn’t been decided. I will be doing my best to keep on top of this information as it becomes available.

You can see the full list below.
