LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne Launches Online Store

While LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne is officially closed, the retail store is still operating. In an effort to provide additional options for people they’ve now launched an online store.

The online store offers a range of LEGOLAND Exclusive products as well as LEGO sets that you might not be able to find elsewhere. The online store now means that these hard to find products are available Australia wide. There is no free shipping but a quick check showed the following shipping options:

  • Click and collect – Free
  • Standard – $14.95
  • Express – $30.00

You might be interested to know that they still seem to have Pirates of Barracuda Bay available, unlike LEGO.com which is sold out.

If you sort the All Products page from Low to High you’ll also discover a bunch of polybags that you can’t easily buy.

You can find the online store at https://shop.legolanddiscoverycentre.com.au/

Now they just need to figure out a way to do PAB online.

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Looking For Young Creative Crew Members

Do you live in Melbourne and have a little LEGO fan aged 6 – 12 years? LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne are currently looking to recruit a crew of young builders.

The Creative Crew will consist of 12 young LEGO fans who will become experts on everything to do with LEGOLAND Discovery Centre. The crew will be invited to attend special VIP days, preview events and one-on-one building classes with unlimited access to the centre all year.

Crew members will be the first to test out and explore the attraction and help the centre become the best LEGO attraction ever. The position includes the chance to build and test new models for events, report on what’s new and share tips with other LEGO fans.

If you have a young builder who would be interested in joining all you need to do is build an original LEGO model and have a 30 second video posted to Facebook or Instagram (with permission via a parent or guardian’s account) showing off their model and answering the question, “Why do you want to be in the Creative Crew?” You must include #CreativeCrewMelb in the Facebook or Instagram post to enter your video. Videos can be posted on the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne Facebook page, or onto a personal Facebook or Instagram page.

The competition runs from 10 March – 30 March 2017.

Good luck to all the young master builders out there.

Are you a Melbourne LEGO fan looking for a career change? Do you dream of getting paid to build with LEGO all day? The dream job for so many AFOLs is now up for grabs.

As you may know, a new LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is opening later this year in Melbourne. The thing is you can’t have a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre without LEGO Models – and that means Master Model Builders.

In order to find the best candidate for the position a unique LEGO building talent quest called Brickfactor will be taking place on February 11-12, 2017 at Chadstone shopping centre. Brickfactor is a free event where LEGO experts compete in action packed building challenges to earn the role of Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne.

If you think you can rock the position then head here to submit your application.

To get an idea of what you are in for I’ve included a video of an American Brickfactor competition.

More Melbourne LEGOLAND Discovery Centre News

We have known that a LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is heading to Chadstone in Melbourne for a little while now but thanks to a couple of news articles we have some new details to share.

The centre is due to open in mid-2017 which is unfortunately way too far away for our liking.

Located next to the main cinemas in a new $25 million-plus wing the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre will feature rides, LEGO building areas, a cinema, party rooms and a Miniland featuring the Melbourne cityscape.

Australia’s first Discovery Centre promises to be quite extensive with a footprint of 2800 square metres.

While the attraction is likely to be a huge hit with young LEGO fans it remains to be seen what appeal it will hold for adult fans; the company behind the Discovery Centres, Merlin Entertainment, are quite open about these venues being only for adults with kids – except on special adult nights. It is likely this will also be true here.

Another big question mark is the products that will be available. Discovery Centres are not LEGO Stores but generally do stock some products not found elsewhere such as small promotional sets. Issues like the Ant-Man or Ultra Agents set availability may affect this centre too.

With an opening in 2017 we’re sure there will be more news to come, possibly even some job opportunities.
